2Peter2:5 and he did not hold back from punishing an ancient world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, safe with seven others when he brought a deluge upon a world of ungodly people; 6 and by reducing the cities Sod´om and Go·mor´rah to ashes he condemned them, setting a pattern for ungodly persons of things to come;
The PATTERN is that God has waged war on people who were beyond salvation, by destroying them on the earth while the undestroyed remained ON THE EARTH.

I've scoured the Bible looking for those same things. I don't think there will be any rapture of Christians - at least, not some secret, invisible one before a tribulation. The Bible says that Jesus will not return until the last trumpet, aka judgement. I think that perhaps the Left Behind books (all of which I own in hardback form) may perhaps be creating an apostasy of sorts. Those books are so interesting, but too many people assume that since the authors have a scholarly background in theology or bibles studies, that they're giving an accurate account of what will probably happen. But the readers need to be presented with other schools of thought! The 7 year thing... I'm confused on that. See, I don't know if the 70th week started with the beginning of Jesus Christ's ministry and then got "cut off" when He was crucified, so we have 3 and a half years of tribulation to go through...
Or maybe the entire last "week" hasn't begun at all yet, and "he will confirm the covenent" means the anti-Christ. I don't get it.
P.S. For the posters who say the rapture is Biblical - it is, but it never ever ever says that it will occur before Jesus Christ's second coming. Ever.

I'm an Orthodox Christian, we do not believe in a pre-tribulation rapture. We do however have many prophecies about the end and they state that there will come a great tribulation and due to the mark of the beast the faithful will undergo one of 2 things, they will be killed or they will survive in hiding until Christ returns, get this...On the LAST day, at which point when He returns to smite the Antichrist, the faithful will be caught up in the air with Him.
The End.

As far as the Rapture, it's Biblical, but it's more obscure than people think. The term and the concept both come from 1 Thessalonians 4:17.
It says, "After that, we who are still alive and are left will be CAUGHT UP together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever."
You may have heard that the word "rapture" is not in the Bible. This is true, but only partially. The word comes from the Latin translation of the Bible called the Vulgate. In English it is rendered "caught up." That's why I put it in caps.

It is biblical. Christians are reading every book except the bible to find what the bible says.
1 Corinthians 15:35-58. in verse 52 ".. in a flash, in the twinkling of an eyem at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
Also read
2 Thessalonians 2, the whole chapter
Matthew 24. the whole chapter too

The pre-tribulation rapture is made up because Jesus said...
Matthew 24:29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Notice in the next passage is says at the "last" trumpet.
1 Corinthians 15:51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.
Revelation 10:7 but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, whenever he is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets.
The "mystery" is that God would unite Jews and Gentiles into one people under God. Right before God pours out his wrath on this world He will rescue the church.
In the next chapter where it again talks about the last or 7th trumpet we see the judgment of rewards for believers.
Revelation 11:15 Then the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were great voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of this world have become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!" 16 And the twenty-four elders, those before the throne of God who sit on their thrones, fell on their faces and worshipped God, 17 saying: "We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to reign. 18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, and to those that fear Your name, to the small and to the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth."

The "{poof} Hey! Where did my spouse/child/friend go?!?" concept of "rapture" comes mainly from Jesus' words in Matthew 24, where he says "Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left."
Many people disagree with the Left Behind interpretation of this passage (where those who are raptured go "poof" and those who aren't raptured are, literally, "left behind")... but lately I've seen more and more people saying that the concept doesn't exist anywhere in the Bible, which isn't true.

The word "Rapture" is not mentioned in the Bible. It was used to describe a time coming when, just prior to Christs return, when Christians will be removed from Earth.
1Co 15:51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Co 15:52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
1Co 15:54 But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

It was made up by an evangelicalist during the period when that religion spread across the southern states of the USA. There is no such thing as the rapture actually within the Bible.
