I think there are alternatives, just ask your dentist.
is it the shot, or the meds that you are averse to?
if it's the shot, and you haven't had one before, they really don't hurt- but you can have the dentist give you the "gas" before the shot, and it will take away all of your concerns.

As a last resort they can put you under (As in unconcious) They can also use gas or a pill like medicine, but these all will have you "loopy", and you will not be able to drive yourself home. Are you alergic to lidocane? Or is it the shot you are afraid of? You can get a shot without lidocane (a substitute which does not have additives (not sure of the name)). Anyway, the pain from the shot is almost nothing. If this is your fear, don't worry! Hope Everything works out for you. Good luck!

Take the shot. Another numbing drug is bupivicaine (aka Marcaine, or Sensorcaine). But these are related to lidocaine. Very few dentists use gas in their offices.

They can put you to sleep either most of the way or all the way. Sometimes, depending on your insurance, it costs more. Talk to your dentist and just say that you don't want the shot. There may be things that can be done. Are you afraid of needles?

There are several options that a dentist uses for numbing your mouth. That is not your only choice. Call your dentist office (or any dentist near you) and find out what they use and what your alternatives are.
Hope that helps :)

I had laughing gas once and all it did was make the pain funny (seriously!) - it still hurt like heck. There is supposed to be hypnosis that works for dental surgery.

Why not? It's very quick and a very light pinching pain.
It completely numbs the area, and surrounding areas!
My husband just got his wisdom teeth removed, and he did not want to be awake, so they gave him some pseudo-general anesthetic. (?)
Not fully awake, but not fully asleep.

Your alternatives aren't much better. U can always opt for the IV in your arm.

"Laughing gas" works pretty well for fillings. I've never had it used for an extraction. Ask the surgeon.
