If I was in your position I would first learn as much as I could about what you want to address in your letter. A good starting point is the website below. Scroll half way down the page to the small blue lettered "Statue of Limitations" and read what's in there. There are some ins and outs to SOLs that you should be aware of before you even start a letter. Each state has their own SOL that is researchable on line too.

You should include the statutes for your state proving that the debt is past SOL.

You might do some reading in the forums on the site I've linked. You will be able to find letter samples, links to your states statutes and you can also read how others have dealt with JDB's, credit bureaus etc.

All of the info on that site is free to read and use.

check your state laws to make sure that the debt is sol ( sol runs 3 to 15 years depending on the state)if so just send a letter to stop communications. they can only contact you to inform you if they are going to sue, which sol will stop. if you make any payments you will have resumed sol. regardless of sol they stay on credit reports for 7 years. if they put back on send proof of 7 year expiration to the cbr's.

What State do you live in? Most states it's 7 years. Unless they already have a judgement against you, then the statue of limitations is different.

If they call and they are past the date you simply say it past the statue of limitions date and hang up.
I would send letters except to them but send it to the credit agencies and ask them to be removed

Cease and Desist. Also make sure that you change your phone number and not give it away to absolutely anyone.

As far as your credit rating, you can't change it for 7 to 10 years. Slowly but surely everything will come off eventually.
