*I noticed worms in his stool. I immediately called a new vet, made an appointment for 9:30 tomorrow morning (because the old vet said it wasnt necessary to de-worm and now that he has worms, Ive decided screw old vet guy.)

Now, 10 minutes ago, my kitten threw up. Hes still super active and affectionate. Should I wait until 9:30 tomorrow morning or call an emergency vet?

He vomitted undigested food, not a hairball, not saliva, not bile. It was definitely cat food, completely undigested.

The worms were in his stool. They were long white and wiggly. I put the fecal material in a bag, put it in my bathroom garbage and covered it- so I can give it to the vet.

He's an indoor cat and he's only been around indoor cats, my roommates dog and my two dogs. None of these animals had fleas or worms, and my kitten did have fleas, but that was taken care of and he was "tested" for worms afterwards. The vet said he was fine, and to take him home. He had his second month of shots, and the vet said he was fine. Now, its been two weeks and all of a sudden, the worms are showing (so obviously aren't new) and he's vomitting. There is no way I'm going back to the old vet. I expressly said I was paranoid of pet diseases, my last pet died of cancer, and I wanted everything and anything done to prevent disease.

Emergency Vet. At least talk to them over the phone and see if they suggest bringing the kitty in. Good luck.

He will be OK until then. The worms have probably been in him for awhile. There are different types of worms...roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, pinworms. If you can pick up a worm and put it in a little bottle and cover it in alcohol, or bring the stool to the vet in a tight container, the vet can tell which type of worm it is and give you the correct medication and dosages. I can't tell what type of worm it might be by your description, but rest easy tonight and let the vet advise you. I have 2 cats that I give medicine to every 3 months as a preventive measure. They are indoors (nights) and outdoors (days) and occasionally eat prey. One time one had roundworms (which look like pieces of spaghetti) but we got rid of them. I only use the vet's medicines. Every vet I've spoken to said the over-the-counter medicines are not nearly as effective as the vet's medicines. It costs me $10 every 3 months for the 2 cats (they get 2 doses @ 3 weeks apart -- $5 for each cat). Good luck!

tapeworms are caused by your cat swallowing a flea...yes your cat could have been flea free when it was tested at the vet...but unless you take care of the fleas....it can re-infect itself over and over again. All it takes is one flea which even if your kitty is an indoor cat...you or your dogs can bring a flea in from outside. I suggest treating all your pets with something like Advantage or Frontline. They are quick and effective. Also, if a stool sample was taken....tapeworm eggs DO NOT show up under a microscope...other worms do. The only way to know if your cat has tapeworms is to actually SEE them.

Well the thing is, is your kitten around any other animals that go outside? or is your cat an outside cat? Or was he an outside cat when you got him? It could have been that he didn't have worms when you took the kitten in last. I have had cats who have gotten worms because of fleas. What my vets does is asks for a stool sample bring it in, and they check out what kind of worms it has and gives me meds. Saves me a office visit fee. Its not an uncommon thing for animals to get worms. But it needs to be taken care of asap. But in your case since you have an appt in the morning, wait till then.

If he is still active and you see no other warning signs, I would say wait till morning, but be sure to monitor your cat. If you see he is throwing up more or becomes lazy and doesn't want to play then I would seek medical attention right away, best of luck, I also have a cat full grown though and he has been very healthy. I love animals. Good Luck with urs.

Yes, they can vomit up worms, and it is a sign that they have quite a big worm load in their gut. It's good that you are taking her to the vet. Even kittens need to be wormed regularly, as they can get worms passed on from their mums right from birth. Worms are particulary damaging to a small kitten, as kittens need all the nutrients they can get to grow. Your kitten should be fine as long as you get her to the vet asap and continue to worm her regularly. Felida

i think that you should go to the emergancy vet. if they say that there's nothing they can do for it, then you can go to the vet at 9:30. if he throws up again, jest put a towle over where your kitten sleeps so that she won't throw up there. I also think that you should ask if you can just talk to your vet and see if it is really seriouse. then you can judge if you want to wait or do go to the emergancy vet. good luck and post how your kitten is feeling aftetr the vet. I would love to know. also, post if they figured out why he/she threw up. then tell what they didto fix it and what they gave you to give to your kitten (antibiotics). hope your kitten feels better.

Yes just wait till morning unless you see blood in the vomit or it becomes so profuse your kitty has trouble breathing.

TAKE HIM BACK TO THE SAME VET AND TELL THEM WHAT YOU FOUND. ALSO IF YOU CAN TAKE A SAMPLE TO THEM SO YOU CAN GET THE MEDICINE HE NEEDS.
