I'm assuming you are asking this question so you can try to avoid receiving a citation (ticket). Abide by the laws and you won't have the need for this question! As a police officer, I can tell you that for most of us, if we feel it is important enough to stop your vehicle because you have commited a violation, then we have already decided that you will be receiving a citation. Some officers will cut breaks if there is a TRULY VALID reason for the violation. Aside from telling you to abide by the laws, my best piece of advice to you is to be respectful and honest with the officer, stay in your vehicle unless asked to step out by the officer, and maintain a good attitude during the stop. I'm sure you may find exceptions out there, but most of us have seen and heard nearly everything and don't fall for the bull, charm, "sweet talk," or whatever you want to label it. If there is the event when an officer might consider giving someone a break, that persons attitude can make or break them. As I generally like to say...most people write their own tickets because of their attitude! Lastly, just remember that the laws are written in an attempt to protect you and others, and that police officers don't make the laws, but it is their job to enforce them!

I don't know if this counts. I was on my way to a Wedding reception with a 25 lb Lasagna on the passenger seat. I was helping make all the food for the event.and I went through a stop sign and just my luck a police car was behind me. He pulled me over and I explained I was going to a wedding reception with this Lasagna. The officer stated that it smelled really good like his mother's cooking. I offered him some. He actually came to the reception and had two helpings after his shift was over. I didn't get a ticket.

I didn't have to. One night a highway patrolman pulled me for a headlight. He asked the usual, license and registration bit. At the time I was a correctional officer and a military wife so I was pulling out of my wallet all of the forms of ID he didn't ask for. When I threw down my military dependent ID and then my state correctional badge/ID and finally found my driver's license to hand it to him, he reached in the car between my legs and took the other forms of ID. I guess he thought he had something there when I kept throwing ID down saying 'nope, not it.' Should have seen the look on his face when he realized he had just went between a female's legs to get something and added it was another officer who he had done it to.
So again, no, I didn't have to sweet talk the officer. He was the one sucking up to me when he realized his mistake.

One of the best ways to sweet talk a traffic cop is to say things like "ooh, I like your baton," or "is that a radar in your pocket or are you just glad to see me." This works in at least 2% of all ticket situations.

Ummmm...no but I was almost crying once and told him I had a really bad day and just got a ticket like 10 days ago (which I did) and was throwing my tampons out of my purse trying to find my license. He was so embarrassed he told me to go. I was truly having a bad day. I also asked permission to get my insurance info out of the glove compartment, I think he liked that. I used to work with cops, so I'm always polite with them. I was very grateful and to date, I have not been stopped bc I watch my speed! :)

I was speeding to get my Dog to the Vet. And he felt compassion for the Dog so He just warned me. Come to find out he was friends with the Vet I was speeding to !!!

oh yeaaaaaahhhh. and it always works. i always say "oh, i'm sooooooo lost and i don't know this neighborhood! help me!" in a very cute and innocent manner of course.

anyhow i've only gotten one ticket, when my boyfriend was in the car. all other times i've gotten off INCLUDING once when i was 20 and i was driving around (not drunk, but with alcohol in my system) with an open fifth in my backseat. all i had to do was pour it out.
