I am a 15 year old and this sounds very similar to myself. I stay up late a lot because I like to surf the net or learn about things in the news via computer. I also talk to friends on AIM and look at myspace sites. I don't know what your daughter does so late but maybe that would be a first good step. I wouldn't worry about her behavior too much because it is pretty normal. Especially in summer you should let her sleep late and get a lot of rest. I don't know about for her but for me, during the school year I have so many activities and homework that I barely get enough sleep. So it is nice to relax in the summer and sleep as late as I want. You are definetly doing the right thing though, by waking her up by noon. If she spent her whole day sleeping, she wouldnt have time to do anything else. I guess my main point is just to not worry about it. She is probably just enjoying her summer and lounging while she can. Make sure that she gets to bed earlier during the school year though. A full day of school with little sleep is NO fun! :)I hope this was helpful! Good luck!

At 15 years my parents allowed me to set my own bedtime because they knew that I would be responsible to not stay up all night when I have school. When I don't have school they usually stayed up till 3AM with me. I haven't had a bed time since I was about 12, now I'm 17.

School days 9:30, weekends I don't care. My 16 yr old has been getting up and delivering newspapers at 5:30 for 2.5 years. On weekends he goes back to bed until 11:00 am.
Summer he delivers the newspapers then works as a Junior Counselor at a YMCA summer camp - I let him do what he wants on weekend nights.

Me personally, even now at 21 am in bed by 11 and am up no later then 9am!
I get annoyed that my parents allow my brother and sister to sleep whenever they want. My stepdad (mom's ex husband now) used to force me to bed by 9pm every night!!! My brother and sister dont know what they are missing in a structure bedtime.
I believe from 15 on, teens and young adults(even grown adults) are better off on a structure night sleep routine of in bed before 11 and up no later than 9am! The screw up on routine isnt good for the body and thus the mind.

It depends. If there is nothing going on and no school she stays up and goes to bed when she wants and sleeps in the next day. If we have something going on I tell her we have to leave at such and such time so she either goes to bed early or gets little sleep. At this age I feel they are capable of knowing when they are tired and as long as they are getting done what they should I don't worry about it. During the school year it is 10 on school nights as they have to get up at 6 to get ready to catch the bus.

That's exactly what I think. She is at home and on vacation, so she can even stay until 2:00am if she wants. Its not like she is out at a club. She has friends in other parts of the world and this is the perfect time to chat with them. I am also around during that time.

My kids are all grown, but they had a bed time of 10 on school nights and weekends 12. They didn't sleep until noon very often. Good luck on your parenting!

Well, on school nights certainly. But on non-school nights ... you know your teenager best. Do they need one? Not just what others guilt you into but...do they need one? If you really feel they need direction from you, then yes certainly. But my daughters when they were 15? I didn't give them one on non-school nights. It was easy to get them to bed on time on school nights, so I didn't see the need. My youngest daughter is now 19. She stays up till who knows when on non-school nights. But she is wonderful at making sure before college courses start (she lives at home and attends college at a local university) that she needs to go to bed early and does without us having to say anything. Kids seem to do what you truly expect them to do. IF you set expectations, they really do seem to follow.

Well, if my 15 year old son is in school, (summer or regular) I tell him to go to sleep at 10:30PM. If not, I may let him stay up until 11:30PM.
