World War III is rapidly approaching. Would it be a good idea to pick sides now and this time not be allied with America, as they tend to kill a few from either?

This question needs a special award. It's the most ridiculously preponderance in the entire universe of philosophy. I don't know where you are from, but you need to look around you. Global war is not a card game or a plot for a reality show. Pick sides? An army is only as strong as its weakest soldier. You probably need to politic to get accepted to any side with an attitude like this. Patriotism and loyalty are necessary to apply for a side. You may need to reapply once becoming eligible because your kind of lackadaisical interest s not necessarily welcomed in a war.

You want Brits, I'll give you the "best" Brit....

"Twice in my lifetime the long arm of destiny has reached across the oceans and involved the entire life and manhood of the United States in a deadly struggle.

There was no use in saying "We don't want it; we won’t have it; our forebears left Europe to avoid these quarrels; we have founded a new world which has no contact with the old. "There was no use in that. The long arm reaches out remorselessly, and every one's existence, environment, and outlook undergo a swift and irresistible change. What is the explanation, Mr. President, of these strange facts, and what are the deep laws to which they respond? I will offer you one explanation - there are others, but one will suffice.

The price of greatness is responsibility. If the people of the United States had continued in a mediocre station, struggling with the wilderness, absorbed in their own affairs, and a factor of no consequence in the movement of the world, they might have remained forgotten and undisturbed beyond their protecting oceans: but one cannot rise to be in many ways the leading community in the civilised world without being involved in its problems, without being convulsed by its agonies and inspired by its causes.

If this has been proved in the past, as it has been, it will become indisputable in the future. The people of the United States cannot escape world responsibility. Although we live in a period so tumultuous that little can be predicted, we may be quite sure that this process will be intensified with every forward step the United States make in wealth and in power. Not only are the responsibilities of this great Republic growing, but the world over which they range is itself contracting in relation to our powers of locomotion at a positively alarming rate."

Partial quote, Sir Winston Churchill, The Price of Greatness is Responsibility, to Harvard University

World War III. Well if the media, politicians choose to start calling these events in the Middle East 'World War III', then that's what it'll be called. Does it matter what it's called? Will the whole world be involved? Yes, because it involves oil. It's all about business and trade. That's it.
Forget about nations. Think about the big businesses.

I think you need to side with the terrorists. I mean they don't like America or Israel. Come to think of it, they don't like anyone that isn't one of them. They even kill fellow Arabs and Muslims. You could join up with them and give your life, yep give, (Suicide Bomber) for the cause. You might get to go to Heaven as a Martyr and get your 72 virgins, or virgils or virginians, which ever it is. Where do they get all those virgins anyway? Oh, I know! From the women and children you would be sent to kill in a marketplace, on a school bus or in a school yard. You never see the leaders of those groups blowing themselves up for the cause, only recruiting weak minded dumbasses that will do it for them.

I say pick them.. what an idiotic question.

g8bvl has a point, the USAF, USN and US army have many bases and assets in the UK. We are permanent allies. Personally, I'd rather be with America than against. They've been friends with us for too long for us to turn our backs on them.

However, if they start a war that doesn't actually affect us, then they should respect our decision not to join in.

Eg, if your mate got into money troubles, and you weren't exactly well off, he shouldn't expect you to lend him any money, you'd help him if you could, but he shouldn't expect help from you.

We do not have a choice, this bunch of idiots will ally themselves with isolationist USA and while they may have 10-15 minutes to deflect inbound missiles we will not get any warning. So we would be best having our government do as the Swiss do and pull the troops back and be neutral.

yes it would, and america would be a terrible country to side on. the Brits should side on any country that is against america but not Britain, then the americans would go down and there would be more oil and food in the world.

The trouble with your concept is that the next world war is the big one and we are either on the side of god or the side of the devil. The islamic world is the enemy next time not germany and love it or hate it the US is like ourselves a christian country.
So i'm sorry to say it's the old adage that my enemies enemy is my friend. Namely the US.

I am pretty sure they have a fair size airforce and nuclear submarine base in the UK, never mind the listening stations............might not be such a good idea turning on them as if that isn't enough the would only have to park a few of their spare aircraft carriers off our shores and its big mac's for all of us anyway.
