is there a program that logs when a specified program writes to a specific file? reads that file?

trying to grab a cd key from my game since i lost the key, but i can't find which file it writes the cd key to.

It's not in the registry, so it must be in one of the files, but how to find which file it is?

CD Keys are in the registry, but they are usually coded. You're out of luck as far as that goes.

Might try looking in the registry. Search for anything that may be part of the game.
