Go out on a limb, you will never know for sure unless you are willing to be rejected. Just tell them you think they are cool, and would really like to get to know them better. If they throw it back at you or make fun of you, who cares, at least you will know they aren't the type of person you would want to be with then.

How can you know you like them, if you haven't talked to them?
If you mean, how to talk to them, in telling them that you like them... it's just something you have to do.
I spent 3 months wondering that same thing with a guy, me hinting things, he hinting things, both of us are shy. In the end I got fed up with it one night and one drunkenly confessed my adoration for him. I regretted it the next day (having done it drunkenly).. and didnt call him for 2 days. Then on the third day he called me, but I didnt have my phone with me, and he tried maybe 3 times.
Luckily for me, he was feeling the same way.
Im not suggesting you do it the same way I did, but it's much more of a relief knowing for certain, than playing with all the maybes in your mind. If he doesn't like you, then it woud be easier for you to know now, than to continue using energy for feelings that aren't going to be put to use.
Be brave! Speak your mind, if you are already friends, it's not going to ruin that, and if it does, then he wasnt a very good freind to begin with!

you just have to get up the courage and tell them...and if you are good enough of friends you can still be friends with them after u tell them..i liked my good friend for 5 years he didnt like me back but were still friends

just talk to him let him get to know you, and have a good conversation about someone or something, if he is talking back and not ignoring you then he may like you if he is ignoring you or just saying "yea......yea......yea I know.......yea" you know bla, bla, bla, he may not like you but just get to know him and he'll get to know you.
