You know, so the middle is done just like the outsides. Also so there is no chance of getting food poisoning, but without burning the brats.

Someone told me that boiling them spoils the flavor. Is that true? I am boiling them first for about ten minutes. Then I am planning on browning them in a frying pan then adding a little beer for a brown sauce.

Put them in a pan with a little red wine, garlic and a tablespoon of tomato paste.Simmer them covered for about 15 minites.Transfer them to a hot grill and cook until the skin gets a little charred, turninig evrey 5 minute for about 15 minutes. While you do that, reduce the sauce, adding a little more wine or broth, stir in a little hot mustard.
Sautee thinly sliced red cabbage in the liquid.add a pinch of brown sugar.Serve thr brats over the sauteed cabbage, salt and pepper to taste.Have some good french bread and home made apple sauce as your sides.Enjoy.

This depends on the quality of the brats. High quality brats without fillers are what you want. Put them in a crock pot on low for like 8 hours. You can add beer if you want but I think that tastes vile (I'm in a minority on this). You can also add various spices that will seep into the meat. For example, fresh garlic works very nice.
The brats should get softer and softer as you cook them. Eat on a bun. Delicious. Note that low quality brats with fillers in them will turn rubbery if you do this. Go shop somewhere else if that happens.

Boil them for 15 min. before grilling them, for extra tastie brats, after grilling place in a sauce pan with onions and a can of beer and simmer for an hr. or so , you can also add sour kraut too.

I boil my brats in beer and onions before grilling. It adds great flavor and ensures that they get done all the way through.
