I am an Orthodontist and I think I can answer your question. The reason for taking out 4 teeth is either to get your bite right or to resolve crowding. The most ideal bite is called Class I. Generally we recommend taking out 4 premolars (which are ahead of Molars) if the patient has severe crowding or if you have either a Class II or Class III bite. Once the crowding is resolved, wires are changed into thicker/stiffer Stainless steel wires, they will use either chains (power chains) or Nitinol Coil spring to close those spaces. You also may have to wear rubber bands if the teeth are taken out to correct bite. Hope that helps.

My son just had eight teeth pulled in the last two weeks..we are looking at him getting braces next year. The reason for pulling teeth are because they were crowed, there was not enough room in your mouth or they were growing at an angle. The braces will help to straighten your teeth and there will be no gap after they are straight...

Actually your teeth will fill the spaces. They obviously extracted because of overcrowding. With the braces on, they will rotate the teeth into place and the spaces will close.

just a word of advice and learning about it from my own experience and from dental assisting school. before u get braces, u should get your wisdom teeth taken out, because if your wisdom teeth are like mine they wont come in like normal teeth. they will start pushing on your molars trying to come in. i had braces for 3 years and when i was wearing my retainers, my wisdom teeth tried coming in and started pusing on the sides of my molars and crowded my teeth. i dont have straight teeth anymore and it sucks.

Eventually all your crowded teeth will move into those spaces and your teeth will look beautiful.
