I know that i have used eggs like in cakes before well past the date on the package. But i was wondering if anyone knows how long it's ok to use them just like to make scrambled eggs. I opened one of them up and it looks normal and smells fine.

Chicken eggs are good for about six months, although as they get older they tend to lose some of their nutritional value. I have two pet cluckers and once I looked this question up on a chicken website.

The date on the package is the sell by date. You can't sell something like a gallon of milk or a carton of eggs and expect them to consume the entire thing in one day so the product is supposed to be good for at least 5 days after that (most meat products excluded, but not eggs). The person that answered this question first was right though. 5 days more or less guaranteed, but you can usually go a bit more than that.

If for whatever reason, you have a pack date instead of a sell by date that second website in the references tells you how to read it.

You sort of answered your own question. If it looks and smells bad don't use it. That is a SELL BY date on the package and just like lots of other things they are still good after that date. The length of time after that date can vary. If you are not eating them raw or under cooked and they look and smell good you can use them.

quite a while, tho quality deteriorates. During WWII, my father's family kept them in water in a cool spot, and they kept for 6 months plus. However, the yolks got very flat.
Just like the eggs at that international breakfast house.
