Some questions asked are quite inappropriate to ask total strangers. Some people has asked questions of a sexual nature, or ask whether people have broken the law. I find such questions quite offputting.
I put it in the etiquette section because this is an etiquette issue.

I think there is a certain percentage of people who are just messing around and are not serious about anything. Then there's the group who want to stir up trouble and post questions to make people angry.
But I also think that for some people, this forum is a version of "Dear Abby" or "Ann Landers." They can ask a question with a fair degree of anonymity (sorry for the spelling) and get opinions in a short amount of time.

I think some are being ignorant, but I do believe some of them just feel this is the easiest place to ask a question that would be too awkward to ask another person face to face. If they aren't being gross about it or just trying to ask for shock value, I guess it's ok to ask a question of a personal nature. I mean, it is an open forum. People don't have to reply to questions that make them uncomfortable.

Well, this is Yahoo Answers and it is in the etiquette forum, so I guess people who need to learn about etiquette come here to ask questions. Doesn't that make sense?

well probably because they know nobody knows or will find out their true identity, thus they don't mind asking personal things on here...it could also be because they don't mind humiliating themselves online, and of course boredom can be a factor too. But one thing's for sure, sometimes you find out some really interesting things about people on here...

Maybe they tried asking for help or advice before, but kept on getting ignored and their only way to find their advice is on the net.

Maybe because some people feel more comfortable talking to faceless strangers that they know they'll never see.

I think most of it is shock value, some of it is crude & rude, some is truly of an ignorant nature and others is just dumb & dumber........
