I think that something needs to be done with the boarders, not only Mexico but Canada to. People can walk right across Canada's boarders. When we came back into the USA, they did not even look for nothing let us drive right by. Amazing to me! And that was on the USA side. Now that makes me feel safe!
The illegals that are here and have not criminal record should be able to stay. Ones that do have Criminal records needs to go back to where ever they came from.
I believe that they all should have a chance to have a good life. And as far as the welfare. AMERICA wake up that is Americans themselves abusing our system. And the GOVERNMENT needs to wake up and put a stop to it. It's a cycle and it needs to be stopped. But how? I see it all the time day in and day out. Girls coming in with one, two, three kids and another on the way! Coming and getting more and more.
OK. illegals are breaking a crime coming into this Country! But again alot of them are helping this Country to. So it is a picture in white and Black and everyone has a right to they way the feel and think.
I for one say that i would do what i could to help the good ones'.

I have always opposed illegal immigration. Simply because it's illegal. But your question made me think "what is so bad about illegal immigrants?".
It's easy to just say "no to illegal immigrants", but if I met them and knew them, maybe I would not be so inflexible. They're people, and, in the case of Mexicans, they're usually very good people: hard-working, family oriented, with good moral values, religious, etc. And I'm sure they try not to break the law in other ways, besides entering the country with no papers. I've heard that they have jobs that Americans don't want to have, and for little money.
So I guess I would not send them back if they're already here. I would give them one year to show up at some office and get a work permit. After that time, if they don't have this work permit, they would be sent back home. As for new illegal immigrants, I would not allow them, period. I would send them back as soon as they're caught (if they're caught!).
My main concern with illegal immigration is "homeland security". Along with humble workers can come terrorists. That concerns me a lot.
So, to end my answer, you have left me with some mixed emotions, although if somebody asks me, I will still say that I don't agree with illegal immigration.

I agree immigrants work very long hours and many hold hard jobs- so do American citizens. The USA has no "immigration" problems- it is universally known as the "Melting Pot" for our historic acceptance of peoples from across the globe which continues to this day; honestly, does any other nation on earth allow and promote the amount of immigration or have the amount of cultural diversity as the US? I believe the US has the most liberal immigration policy anywhere- we simply oppose illegal immigration for various reasons (social, economic, security) and, like any other country, we do have the right to decide who is allowed to enter our nation. I think the vast majority of Americans understand we do need immigrants for a variety of reasons, we just think as a sovereign nation we have the right to set immigration policy and become "offended" ourselves when our laws/rules are ignored and broken. First question is why the Spanish language army recruiting commercials "offend" you when people from Brazil speak Portugese and not Spanish (unless I'm totally mistaken)? I also believe most of us here in the USA would be thrilled if we didn't need to communicate in multiple languages- we'll happily make the deal of no Spanish army commercials if everyone learns to speak and accepts to use English for communication purposes. Next question I have refers to your friend in the hospital billing office- what "nationality" is this person and do they dislike Americans (I'm assuming you mean White?) in general? The (racist) response most Americans would probably give you is that some Americans cannot afford to pay their medical bills anymore because the health-care sysytem has been destroyed by illegal immigrants- I honestly don't know anything on this issue but that's what I"VE heard. Next, what does the US owe to anybody in any other nation and why is it expected to take care of everybody struggling under corrupt and inept leadership in other nations? The US seems to get criticized for any and all actions we take abroad and, on top of that, we get criticized for enforcing our domestic policies such as immigration law. Why is it that everyone thinks they can just simply come here when every other nation has stricter immigration restrictions and claim Americans are racist when our doors are so much more open than anywhere else? Please don't give me the arguement that Americans have no right to set immigration policy because we are all "immigrants" except "Native" Americans (first of all, "Native" Americans also immigrated to the Americas from Asia- they just did it first; secondly, no we are not all immigrants since my birth certificate- along with my parents and some of my grandparents- shows I was born in the US; so, if I"m to go back where I came from like some have said, that would be the USA). Please don't give me the arguement that America is the only country that was built on the conquest of one group of people by another- if you check your history books, every country pretty much has a similar story (unless their governemnt doesn't allow for a true teaching of history in their textbooks).Another thing that "offends" American citizens is the fact many immigrants- especially those that have entered illegally- have chosen not to assimilate in to mainstream culture; whereas you say these communities have built strong local economies and rely/support each other, many Americans take the opposite view that these people only serve themselves, do nothing to help the mainstream economy and take jobs from Americans and these groups also have no interest or desire to actually integrate with Americans. As for the Irish (and other European groups) that immigrated here for various reasons during the last couple centuries, you do make an excellent point that they all came here seeking a better life (I'm a mutt of European descent including Irish) just like the immigrants that continue today; the Irish did also face racial oppression from many Americans quite like the Hispanic/Latino immigrants today. Once again however, some differences include the facts that the Irish immigrants that came in waves during the 1800 and 1900's actually all came legally under the immigration policies of the time and they wanted to/have assimilated into the mainstream culture while many Hispanic/Latino immigrants today have come illegally and, once again, seem to want nothing to do with assimilating into American society (other than to make money here). I'm sure you disagree with everything I have said but I'm just giving you some counter-points to your arguements that most Americans think are quite valid. If you can successfully debate THESE issues then I think you will convince Americans that "illegal" immigration is ok and we can end this debate once and for all.

I never thought I would agree a 100% with some George W guy... You totally rock, my friend! From my experience with immigrants, I know that what you are saying is right. And there's something else you didn't say: most times, they risk their lives when crossing the border. And they risk their lives taking those 18 hours/a/day - 7 days/a/week jobs, with no insurance. All to support their families. And that is saying something...

words have meanings it's called Illegal Immigrants, that's nice, I could have swore if the white man had never come over here, nearly slaughtered all of the Indians they came across and enslaved the Africans we really wouldn't have this nation now and it would belong to the Indians like it rightfully should, so since things are the way they are maybe you all should just kind of give up on that lame crap of calling them illegal, they have just as much right as anyone else does to be here and a lot of them that I know, illegal or not, don't sit there and gripe about things nearly as much as so many pathetic cry baby Americans that I have encountered, considering I am an American born and raised and I find that a lot of my fellow Americans are really just annoying idiots that think with really flawed mentalities on a lot of things, anyways, try and remember that they do join the military and fight to protect this nation, they happen to be our neighbors or did you all forget that?

I think you are 100% right....
Why are people so upset about Spanish speakers? Why do people fear becoming a bilingual country? Some of the most educated countries recognize more then one language, I don't understand the narrow minds here.
It would do us some good to know another language, maybe it would raise our national IQ, we could use that, since we don't rank so high in that area, for being a first world country..... people are so petty, grow up children...

What kind of crack are you smoking? The majority of illegals (got it, ill-e-gals) do not want to "contribute to the community", unless it's to the MEXICAN community, maybe! And just what are they 'contributing to the local economy'? Fifteen-20 kids each, for the rest of us to feed, educate, and clothe? I don't know where you live, but where i live, illegals go to the hospitals for treatment, and to have their kids, and never pay the bills! They are a drain on our medical and welfare system, and need to get their sorry asses out of here!

We wouldn't need Spanish-language anything if they spoke English properly. (and check that on the Census! More than Half of Native Spanish speakers speak English NOT AT ALL or POORLY)
And I don't care about why they are coming here. They want a better life? Fine. I know they aren't taking my job. I know they aren't theives in the street. But they are illegal! And I'm talking about more than South and Central Americans! I'm talking Europe, Africa, Asia, everyone! But since you're on Latinos.......... Riddle me this: What kind of world are we going to have if they force out all the good people in Mexico???? The president of Mexico mocks America, but he'll eventually need our help to combat the raging drug gangs in his streets. Or do you not know about the mass murders and police DECAPITATIONS???? We need the good people to stand and fight for their rights (just like our founders did). We need to have a strong ally to our south, not a drug ring! We need them to clean up their own messes so we can spend more time on our own!

That came to a crashing halt on May 1st, 2006. You can save it now. You haven't seen anything yet. Using American flags to protest for lawlessness is sickening, you can stop that too any time you realize you can't win.
