My god!

How many uninformed, uneducated and ignorant dog owners are out there?

Every time I have a look at what people are asking, it is the same old questions. Can't people do research? The web is a resource for even the most simple-minded ... or is it...

Just think...these people will likely have children...

have questions? great! ask away...but don't be LAZY!

You can search Answers to see if your question has already been asked...if you've looked through it, and still have questions, at least you will have done some work for yourself and be able to put forth an original question.

Add:
- inability to spell,
- construct a coherent sentence, and
- use proper punctuation

If Yahoo!Answers is any indication, we are raising iditiots who are completely dependent upon someone else! This is frightening.

***tears of joy*** A kindred spirit! I'm really sick of the same ridiculous questions as well. If I have to explain to one more person that chocolate IS actually toxic to dogs, or that dogs don't have "periods", I might put a pencil through my eye!

Unfortunately, this is how a large portion of the real pet owner population thinks as well. I work in an emergency clinic, and I see so many people who don't know the basics of animal care and hygiene. It is so scary!

My personal favorite, just to gross everyone out, is the person who calls and says there are "worms" coming out of a dog's fur-- you know, the outside dog that has been laying around and having diarrhea for 5 days, and has an "odor." Holy cow, who doesn't know what a maggot looks like! They always act surprised when we explain what they are and how they got there. But we get these calls every summer!

So yes, even the non-computer literate are a treat to deal with. I do try to educate them if they don't know what to do, even on this forum, but sometimes, I just want to scream.

Thanks for venting, and keep it up!

It's just fun to get other people's opinions.

You answered my question regarding frisbee catching. I wanted to answer the questions you asked. You asked why I didn't get a dog from the shelter instead of a breader. My answer is that the breeder has a good reputation for over 20 years and the dog I once got from the shelter killed my daughter's rabbit in front of her. You also mentioned I should sterilize my dog...She was spayed 3 weeks ago. In fact I have had all my dogs fixed and my 2 cats are fixed as well. And thanks for your answer.

Not only is the web open to such questions, but a local library might help on days away from the computer. Get out of the house and explore the world around you and you might find the answers for yourself.

You're right! I wanted to hurl when I read that someone asked for a way to neuter their own dog, and someone else suggested tying a rubber band around the dog's nuts until they atrophy and fall off. Sure enough, the asker voted this the best answer!

Makes me sick to know there are such people out there ...

I could not have said it better. Thank you for brining this up.

The questions that bother me the most are: "My dog has 3 broken legs and is bleeding out of his nose, ears, mouth, eyes, and recturm, AND he just fell out of a 20-story building, what should I do?"

It's ignorant questions like that that really unnerve me.

Thank you for saying what I've been thinking all along.

Amen!

To add to your list:

"Can I feed my dog candy, gum, mouth rinse, etc.?"

"I have no money and live in a 10x10' apt. Where can I find a free dog?"

"My dog is bleeding out of her/his mouth and anus? Is s/he okay? What should I do?"

I will say however, at least some of these people are trying to improve their knowledge of animal care.

I know PRECISELY what you mean!!! SCARY,ain't it? The level of ignorance is ABSYMAL & APALLING!!!

Unfortunately, the average human is STUPID,IGNORANT & LAZY & figure any rules DON'T apply to THEM!
........as well as,"I've already made up my mind! DON'T confuse me with the FACTS!!"

I keep plugging away...just *MAYBE* an accidental brain-cell will collide w/another & TA-DAH!! SOMETHING will get through to *somebody*!

I totally agree, but what are you going to do? Sometimes I give them a "wise" answer in hopes of them realizing the silliness of their question

Painful, isn't it? Just try to educate the people who don't seem beyond hope and take lots of antacids! All this stress is bad for your arteries...
