Some blue cross and blue shield will cover if you are a 100 lbs over weight..............It depends which policy you have. I have not had the surgery but know 3 people that did and they had good results but it depends on the person and I would find a good Dr to talk to about it. You could call the number on the back and talk to your insurance company and see if they cover or go to the website.

I do know that Blue Cross has quit covering almost all weight-loss surgery in most states. In the states that do cover it, it is quite difficult to get coverage. You have to be at least 100 pounds overweight. You have to show a four year history that you have tried to lose weight. Things like Weight Watchers weigh-in sheet or a doctor run weight-loss program. Thing is, you have to make sure that you did not fall under the 100 pounds obesity requirement when you did those programs, even if you gained it back. You also have to show medical cause for the surgery. You have to have diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure or something like that.
It is possible to get them to pay up, even if they say they will not. Most people get denied two times before they will cover it. You have to keep filing appeals. You can go to your employeer and have them call Blue Cross and ask that they cover your surgery. That usually works. Also, you can get a lawyer to write a letter afte ryou get your first denial. They will usually reverse their decision right away if you meet most of their qualification and you have a lawyer contact them.
Many surgeons are refusing to file insurance now, too. You have to file it yourself and that makes it a lot more difficult.
There is a great site online for finding out which insurance companies are paying in which states. Great before and after pictures, too. I've added that link. Good luck with your insurance company.

Gastric Bypass Surgery/gastrectomy/lapband (all types of weight loss /bariatric surgery) is very cheap and safe in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.
I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin got her obesity surgery in India through the forerunners healthcare .SHe is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.I strongly recommend this company to you-if you are seriously looking for the surgery as they can be of big help to you

I just had gastric bypass surgery covered by Healthmark BCBS
get you policy from BCBS stating why they will or will not pay and see if you qualify. If they pay due to body mass, health problems,
hypertension, diabetes, etc. you may qualify. Fight, fight, fight,
appeal, appeal, appeal yourself and surgeon to get them to pay.
