Yes and no, although that's open to debate. Biologically, everybody I know, including scientists and teachers, classify humans as animals. However, spiritually we are above the animals. We're the only created beings made in the image of God, and that totally separates us from the animals.

The answer is undoubtably yes.

The is plenty of evidence that people [humans] are almost identical at the genetic level to chimps [comparing proteins]. We behave like them too sometimes, and some guys look like chimps to me.

I think everyone, no matter how religious, considers chimps to be animals. My point is that people are part of a group of creatures alive today, called animals.

Lets say, two organisms which are similar by some criteria are called the same wide name [say - animals]. If chimps are animals, another organism - people- which are almost identical in many ways to them, should also called animals.

Yes, there is a group of creatures called mammals, as others have wrote. Any warm blooded vertebrate ANIMAL which nourishes young with milk from mammary glands are mammals.

So, yes. people are mammals. So are chimps. WHICH ARE BOTH ANIMALS. As a side line, both people and chimps are also vertebrates, which includes other mammals, as well as other creatures with a spinal column, like fish and reptiles.

Mammals (including people), fish, reptiles, etc. are all verterbrates. Vertebrates are animals, as are the invertebrate animals. Just different levels of clustering things together, adding more groups with every wider name, mammals, vertebrates, animals, etc.

All animals are genetically related, at different levels of similarity.
Maybe two creatures should have >50% similarity to deserve the same name. Too low? Ok, 75% similarity. People are still animals at 75%, as there are loads of different animals with more than 75% genetic similarity to people. If two things are 98% similar, they are certainly almost identical. And thats the proximity of chimps and humans, 98% similar. So humans are animals - If chimps are animals.

What i'm not sure of, is whether some people are more like cabbages? People and cabbages are about 30% genetically identical. Is 30% enough to consider people and cabbages the same name? Yes, both people and cabbages are called Eukaryotes, which includes all plants and animals.

So. Every mammal is included in the wider group called animals, and people are in both groups. We - people, are mammals; we - people, are also animals.

Fact is, some people writing these answers remind me of their distant cabbage relatives too.

I strongly suggest reading a book by a cheeky fellow called mr. charlie Darwin. It was a smash-hit bestseller, published a few years back. The book outsold the bible i believe [so my faith tells me, rather than evidence]. anyway, I think charlie-boy said people are also apes, as well as mammals, vertebrates too, all part of a wider group of organsims called animals.

I really suggest some of the repliers spend more time in a library learning about the experiences and ideas of other people, than sitting in church waiting for all the answers from above.

yes in the scientific sence as well as the regular every day sence, i once heard that the only difference than man and animals is that we dont clean our genitals by licking them, so yes we are very like animals if u have ever taken a good look at people getting mad or anything else they will resort to natural life hitting and screaming. people definatley are animals

Indeed we are. Commonly "animals" is meant to refer to non-human (sometimes non-insect) life, but biologically, we're all part of the same kingdom.

God created animals each after their own kind.
He created humans after his own image, and breathed life, ie. an immortal soul into them.
