I had an 85 ford Taurus. The transmission went out in 97. Soon after everything fell apart. I was really bummed. I loved the car. I have been a SUV mom for a long time and I think I would like to by a nice affordable used car to drive sometimes. The 95-99 Ford Taurus seem to be priced good and I like the style again. Anyone have an idea how these ones hold up? Would I be cursed again? Any other car ideas in these price ranges?

Those had some issues with engine (coolant) and transmission concerns (not many but worth noting problems as the old Tauruses.. ) ... Better bet is a 2000 or newer... Other than some check engine light concerns, they are real dependable and I've seen many at 100k-200k and look almost new and drive like it too

I absolutely adore Ford Tauruses, and have owned 2 of them, myself. However, I have bought the ones from 2002 and more recent. The new Tauruses can easily go anywhere from $13k to $20k. However, I recently bought a used 2002 from eBay for $6k. It has a fair amount of miles, but it was a good buy. The newer Tauruses are EXCELLENT cars, and if you can find one lightly used, I suggest going for it! So far mine have needed very little repair work, and run beautifully. I LOVE these cars! They are also incredibly safe and spacious and comfortable. My dad also drives one.

the transmissions have improved since then, and with the years you are looking for i think it would be a good buy for you. just make sure that routine maintenance has been kept up with and that motor will last forever.
