I was bitten by a brown recluse spider approx. 2 years ago on the inside calf of my left leg. There is a big brown scar remaining..probably 1.5 X 1.5 in. in diameter. Anyone have any suggestions for a poor college girl to try? Thanks!

Had you tried earlier I think cocoa butter would've done the trick - not eliminating it totally, but making it less obvious. Now since the amount of time has past and you said it was brown, I probably would try the "skin lightener or skin whitener" that comes in a small jar - can be found at Walmart and other drug stores. Again, don't expect a miracle....you can just hope for the results to be in making the scar less noticeable and obvious than it is right now. (The other option is to see a dermatologist for recommended therapy - maybe a peel of some type, micro dermabrasion, etc.. They would be the best professional source to contact.) Good luck

The best thing for you scars and acne is exfoliation. You need to speed up your cell renewal to bring up the fresh health cells to the surface. Because you suffer from acne vulgar your skin produces 5x's more dead skin cells than a normal skin. This gives the skin an uneven look. It will also help by dissolving the oil on the skin. Acneic skin produces a thicker and stickier sebum than most. You should use a hydroxy acid preferably salicylic and enzyme base (papain & bromalain) exfoliating mask. Use it only 2-3 x's a week and no more or it will cause the skin to become sensitized. Over time you will notice you're acne getting bette and the scars won't be so prodominent. If you want to go to the extreme you can always do a Jesners peel or an Obaji blue peel. These will basically high percentages of acids that melt the layers of skin away. You will be in a lot of pain and red and peeling for a couple of weeks. Another option would be IPL laser or Photofacials. Good Luck! Write me if you have anymore questions.

You could go to the family doc and have him inject it with cortisone... that usually strips the color out of the scar.

You could also try rubbing vitamin E oil in to it, 20 minutes vigourous a day for 10 days, and see if you can break down some of the scartissue.

pure vitamin E oil works really well, I used it on my scars I had after getting burns on my hands. You can get it at most drug stores, just make sure you get pure oil, it works better, it is also really cheap.

Mederma or something like that is supposed to help. Have you seen those commercials? You can buy it at Walmart or anywhere like that. It's over the counter.
