Yes it evolves. Take Christianity for example. It divided into two very distinct sects in the Orthodox and Catholic churchs. The Catholic church evolved into the Protestant religion and that divided into hundreds of Protestant religions. In addition, it is a common belief that Judaism evolved into Christianity into Islam.

It depends what you mean. Some religions have branched off from what they used to be because of changes in the world around them. Even Catholocism "changes" as time passes. They become more lienent with certain things versus before when they were strict about everything. A lot depends on the generations that are practicing, the leader, etc. If a marriage cerfiticate for Mary Magdelen and Jesus was found and authenticated, the church would not say that Mary was a prostitute. Things change.

Sure it does... interpretively. For example, Genesis... that describes a universe that consists only of the earth and heaven, separated by a solid barrier called the 'firmament'... i.e., the sky... that has the sun, moon and a couple thousand stars affixed to it. Then, as people came to understand the actual configuration of the universe, apologists had to put on their dancin' shoes on (after things got out of hand to the point that they could no longer just kill people that espoused views other than the canonical view) and come up with weasely new interpretations, so that it would not be revealed for what it really is... myth. Now they are going through the same thing with evolution.
So... what you see is the evolution of lies about biblical interpretation, meant to keep people in mental bondage to myth and delusion.

Religion evolves along with the Humans who make religiousities a part of their lives; the religion I subscribe to is ever-evolving, growing, changing, and full of life.
The only thing that is set in stone are the minds of the people who would condemn you to hell for whatever dogma they picked up to condemn you with.
Blessed Be.

Does a religion evolve into something totally new from what it was, depends on who is in the driving seat and who are the passengers. If it is man-made, ofcourse it will evolve totally depending on the new driver(s), and may even go into extinction.
If God driven (if He exists), then it evolves in understandings of God's so called revelation of himself. So the core dogmas will not (cannot) change (because the driver is not changed), but the exterior might.
Just my opinion.......

Just look around-evolution abounds. The closest thing you can find to a New Testament church-you would not believe. Look in the Christian church. They are all over the chart on theology and service style. Go back to the reformation-who threw out everything in the church and truly started all over at scratch, with nothing but the Bible and the holy Spirit? Hint-they were called "radical" reformers. The Anabaptist. Where are they today?
Yes religion does evolve.
But those who stay with the Bible will be close to what they are supposes to be.

well my opinion about Christianity which is the one i know in particular is that it does not evolve but it is set in stone . i think this way because as far as i know the main purpose of it has has always been the same ' to love God over everything and your neighbors as yourself ' and 'if u do not love those which u can see how can u love the One u don't ' .
in my opinion what really evolves are our opinions and what we know today but didn't understand yesterday but the principles stay the same .

It does -- think of all the laws that Christianity no longer abides by (those in the Old Testament -- mostly in Leviticus), and the changes being made with the acceptance of gays.. (in only a few cases, really)
I think that it should be allowed to evolve more -- but oh well.

It evolved from caveman polytheism, used to explain, into monotheism used to control. Look at Christianity. Islam evolved from Christianity, and Christianity evolved from Judaism. Judaism evolved from caveman religion.
