I have heard that yoga and other stretches can help relieve pain, but is there a way to correct it without surgery or a brace? I have a very mild case, but it causes me to have uneven hips and shoulders which are very noticable, at least to me. I have also noticed that if i stand up completely straight against a wall my right arm starts to go numb, and i don't want it to get any worse.

You can't prevent it from getting worse if you are still growing.
There are things to help your muscles....
But it sounds like you need more than that already with numbness..
Usually that means at least a brace, or surgery.
It is based on what your degree of rotation actually is.
If you are looking at about 20 degrees or more, then you are looking at a surgery.
Support your back with a brace now...
I wish there was a "cause" for scoliosis.. but we don't know what causes it. At least there are ways to fix it.

My suggestion is to go to a D.O. and try manipulative treatment....Other than that stick with your orthopedic surgeon.

it depends if your scoliosis is cause by a bone deformity or muscle tightness... if it's muscle tightness then a massage therapist can really help to lengthen out the muscles along the side of the spine that are causing you such great discomfort... massage along with stretches prescribed by your therapist would be great... but if the scoliosis is caused by bone deformity, then nothing you can do can change the shape of your spine besides surgery... best of luck!!!
