Would there be a better chance of a ajoining seat if I travel in business?

The best advice to give you is book the ticket in advance for your travel date. I'm familar with the Amtrak Seating system, but you would have book your ticket in advance as a RESERVED TICKET in order to get the adjacent seat. If you are happening to make the trip tomorrow it will be hard (unless you've purchased the ticket) because it will be Business/Commuter travel day (Usual Business Travelers).

Business Class will cost you more; and unless you book your ticket in advance you will not be guarenteed to receive the adjacent seat.

Another factor that comes into play is your starting and final destination.

Other than that, this is all I have that will help.
