The reason athletes and tv star models and who ever else you mentioned make so much money is because people pay voluntarily from their pockets to see their games and their shows. Teachers and firefighters don't entertain people, so they get paid less from our taxes. I agree they should be paid more, but thats the reason why they arent. Because people buy the movies and magazines and tickets, but teachers and firefighters dont do stuff like that, and they really cant which is totally unfair for them! they should get paid tons more.

I agree it is pretty sad. The core value each person on the planet has is what he or she does for everyone else in relation to how many other people are willing and able to do that same thing, and how many people need or want that same thing done for them
You would think that the things we need would be more valuable than the things we just want. That is not true though because more people are able to do the things we need and less people are able to do the things we just want.
Also, because of technology, many of the things we just want are able to be distributed worldwide for very little cost to all of the people that want them. So, the same music, sporting events and movies can be distributed to as many people that want them. While things like food can only be distributed once and then it is gone.
Why are so many people willing to pay (trade their work) to watch others do things like play with balls, act, or sing? It is hard to say, but perhaps the few people who do these things really well are the rare example of the most a human can do in that endeavor, and the people who watch it somehow feel emotionally involved. Most of the people who are watching would never be able to do what they are watching, so watching is as close as they can come. It is only because so many people want to watch these things that they are able to generate so much value.
If this sort of thing bothers you than you should restrict paying for anything that has purely entertainment or emotional value.

I agree..BUT you need to remember that Teachers, Fire Fighters, Police officers are all paid by tax dollars. And we Americans are always voting to NOT raise taxes.
Think of the term "You Get What You Pay For"

It's very frustrating, but it (unfortunately) reflects the values held by many people in the US.
