When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
joyfully, playfully watching me.

Then they sent me away to teach me how to be sensible,
oh logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
clinical, oh, intellectual, cynical.

There are times when all the world's asleep,
the questions run too deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, oh, respectable, oh, presentable, a vegetable!

At night, when all the world's asleep,
the questions run so deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am!

Super Tramp.. the Logical Song

I think when you are young you are always enthralled by the mystery in everything because having no explanations of why certain things happen you tend to use your own imagination and come up with your own answers for things.

Then we grow up and it changes. The mystery is stripped down and we try to find other ways to keep the imagination we had as a child alive. If a person is lucky, they've managed to.

I'm not sure -- but this sounds like a free verse poem-- and I really love it. Things were magical when we were young, before the cultural and societal attitudes and preconceptions were forced upon us and we had to become 'normal' and 'mature'. (Those two things are highly overated) I'd rather have 'Faith Like a Child' and live in rapt and awe at my surroundings -- I hope to someday be able to enjoy things as I did as a child.

Life was never any more mystical than today, it's just that we've gotten better at avoiding it.
