I know it has herbs or spices steeped into it for flavoring, and i always thought of it just as water with "flavoring" from whatever is steeped in it.. but i always knew it was completely diffferent from water. What makes tea "not water", and what makes it a dieuretic? (sp?)

there simply is no other difference, just the name. (i mean, things have to have a name, right?)all beverages contain water as a main ingredient. when you have water and add sugar and lemon juice, you call it lemonade. all fruits contain water, so any juice is basically water plus the specific colour, vitamins, flavours and fruit sugar of course. same with coffee and tea, it is just the extracts of the coffee bean or tea leafs that make it more than water.
accordingly, it has to be a certain chemical substance (perhaps the tein or coffein) from these extracts that causes the beverage to be diuretic. (no idea what exactly it is)
