Carlin has a valid argument! I don't think so. the comments here do in fact address important concerns.
Most so called church people are not Holy people.
All churches that are 501c3 non-profit are government created, they are not created on God's word. The preachers in these types of church say something like," by the power invested in me by the STATE of TENNESSEE you are now husband and wife". Thought they got their power from God?
The church being involved in politics, government, and public policy is not a problem. But the real question should be which government?
Taxes - I am going to share with you a very sad fact. That fact is, if a person pays a tax on anything home, boat, car whatever. That person is not free
Taxes and debt was here in the Bible days. They where created to rob the people. That's why Jesus got angry and cleared out the temple. The people where being robbed and was to dumb to know it. Just like today. Debt like taxes destroys people.
How do people pay their debts today. They use the Greenback a/k/a the dollar. The problem with that is all Greenbacks are completely fake. Worthless paper that people kill for, lie for and die for. With all that their debts are still not paid. Everything paid for using fake Greenbacks ends up at the national debt. Then What?
As for as the Catholic Church is concerned it is a government. Defined below
Vatican City, the sovereign state
Vatican Hill, a hill in Rome on the opposite side of the Tiber from the traditional seven hills of Rome
Vatican may also refer to:
The Holy See, the governing body of the Roman Catholic Church and the Vatican City, consisting of the Pope and the Roman Curia
The leadership of the Roman Catholic Church
The Roman Curia, the administrative apparatus of the Holy See
The Papal States, the former territorial possessions of the Holy See

Not a bad idea and it is possible to Tax Churches in America. At least Property tax. So long as ALL relgions get taxed equally it's legal. You can't respect one over another.
As for income, most are legally Tax Exempt Non Profit organizations. That also makes them exempt from Sales taxes.
To draw a line there is to also have to tax the Red Cross or Family Services or United Way.
Remember, there's a lot of non-sectarian organizations out there tending the the body and soul's of people, like the hot meal food kitchens that serve up Thanksgiving Dinners, which is not a religious holiday!

If you don't like church people, it would probably be a good idea for you to stay away from church.
Church people (whether we are "holy" or not) also "render unto Ceasar", I pay my tax, so why should I not have a voice in my government as well as anyone else? Whether or not I belong to a church should not make any difference. My beliefs are my own business, aren't they?

churches often barely make enough to stand on their own, let alone pay taxes. The churches who do have lots of money donated by their members usually use it for humanitarian purposes like helping the homeless and helping disaster victims. taxing these churches would take away from the good work that they do. why would anyone want to do that??????

nicely then you quite could ought to tax all non revenue, era in the event that they seem to be a church or no longer. as nicely it can be a contravention of the constitiution meaning exceedingly quickly the finished element could be valueless. If something there should be extra finished to be sure all non revenue do no longer abuse their donations. There are rules approximately no longer telling people the thank you to vote so a techniques as church homes bypass, in different words they are in a position to't tell people they ought to vote a undeniable way, yet they like different companies could make techniques. this is freedom of speech like it or no longer.

1) So don't go to church.
2) All non-profit organizations are not-taxed. If a church owns a profit producing enterprise, that is taxable.
3) I think you vastly underestimate the size of our debt.

Well, sure, but the U.S. Government recognized how this could be misused and adopted a stance of "benevolent neutrality" in the matter. Now they only talk about taxing the ones that get involved in politics.

my church pays taxes. If some don't it's because the law allows it. If someone told you that you didn't have to pay an $$$ tax bill would you go and pay it anyway? Besides that we are told in the Bible to obey the law of the land.

I do understand your frustration completely, but this would also affect other religions. Yes, religion will always try to affect our politics that will never change whether we like it or not. Let's not have our politics affect religion. You have every right to be frustrated because it is frustrating , but you would be taking on an enourmous chunk of this country. Also this is something that will never change, politics is about getting votes and if you want the cathlic vote you will lean towards what they want.

I think some issues are really delicate to get into like religion. So it is better left unsaid. Personally am a great believer and do not really appreciate this remark.
