I am in San Jose, CA and I need to move 2 rooms (an appartment) across town. I have a large truck and I want to hire two day labourers from Home Depot parking lot to help me move. I think this is 1 trip -- load a few pieces and 25 boxes for 2.0 hours -- drive 20 minutes and unload in about 1 hour -- what is a fair price to offer?

day laborers usually won't go with you for less than $15 an hour per person.

pretty expensive considering they don't have another job

use to work out of a labour hall and the going rate for a days work was 40 bucks a day depending on how desperate they are they may take you up on it or they may laugh in your facebut then again i was only doing that to get hired on full time at this place and that was the only way to get the job i would offer 50 a piece for 2 hrs that aint bad

Pick the highest amount you can afford, & tell them you'll give them a percentage upfront (your choice; half- let's say), and the rest if they do a good job. If you can't trust each other to "deliver"- then do it yourself.

Just give them $100. They will take it.
