I mean, if you were fed up with the world but thought killing yourself was an absurd and horrible option, would you fake insanity to escape it all and go to an asylum? They say ignorance is bliss. If you would, how would you do it, and why? If not, why not? Maybe this question itself was absurd; however, it's interesting, and I'm curious.

No. life has too much to offer to waste my time on faking insanity.
There is a darkness or fog of insanity like nothing else. Unless you've been there no words can describe it. Have you ever been to an asylum and really seen the pain behind the eyes? It's not a place you would want to go. It would drive you insane.

As a nurse having worked with the mentally ill, I can assure you that you DO NOT want to be institutionalized. It is not a country club. There are a good many very dangerously ill people in mental institutions. The nice, private go on vacation ones are for the people who can afford to pay for a few weeks or a month of "country club" mental health. The state funded institutions for the mentally ill are usually very bad places to have to be. I am not saying that the state run facilities don't attempt to do a good job with mental health treatment, but if you have never been in a lock down unit then you have NO idea of the types of people you will be in contact with. If you were truly faking your mental illness, about one or two hours locked up in general pop. with truly mentally ill people will miraculously heal you of your problems, I promise!!

There are no insane asylums anymore. There are psychiatric wards but a week stay is pretty long. In that time they would try to get you on proper medication and transition you to an out-patient therapist. Hey maybe some counselling would help you. That would be a simpler answer.

No and as someone who suffers from mental illness and the associated stigma I would want to wonder why anyone would want to fake it or any illness, attention seeking maybe who knows but I would suggest if someone were thinking along those lines then maybe they should take a good look at their life and maybe do some work for the more unfortunate in our society so they realise their life isnt so bad.

You may want to go and visit one of these places and see if you could tolerate living in such a manner. I think you would change your mind in a rather rapid fashion.. Would recommend that you find some avenue to find out why you do have these thoughts.. There are little triggers buried within your mind which can create some rather absurd thoughts and reactions.. Perhaps, by finding out how to get rid of them, you would have different thoughts to live with. Those triggers are associated with emotions you have experienced, from as far back as early childhood Most people have them and are troubled by them their entire life.

you cannot fake true insanity...its a serious and should not be taken lightly or as a joke,....cuz u may end up gettin pills that could be seriously unhealthy for u and that were SPECIFIED FOR A REASON to ppl needing mental aid. in an asylum you recieve help for mental sicknesses not boredom.

NO

not to mention they are expensive and you you faking it will waste the time of ones who NEED it and the ones giving the help and disrespectful becaus ethese ppl r in a time of need and rehabilitation but they would be put on hold to satisfy your curiousity

An asylum isn't a vacation. It's confinement, drugs, and lots of docs examining you. It's also generally not free. I don't think any sane person w/o issues would fake insanity just to visit an asylum

if you were fed up with the world and thought about killing yourself that shows that you might actually belong in a mental hospital just wanting to escape life so bad that you would fake being crazy shows that you are not mentally well in the first place

Yes, I've considered it!
I'm at a point and have been for 3 straight years where I've
done my best to deal with college not working out, working jobs I
hate, spending all my time alone even holidays where I've wondered how many people this very moment are living a better quality life than me and are either
low life welfare trash or living at a state funded institution. How bad can it be( the institution), they medicate, you, you get to be around women(the staff) and you get to watch t.v. and eat well without work!

I found a wonderful place to go to when I really feel insane pressure ect. I wish I could stay there. They can only keep you so long. If you are really INSANE you will have to be sent somewhere I have never been but I hear you might never get out! Think about that. Good luck with your Quest!!
