I've had a couple of cats who were mostly outdoor - I didn't worry about them because they were smart. One lived over 5 years (he was full grown when I adopted him and therefore I don't know how old he really was). The other was raised from a kitten and was with me for nearly 4. In both cases, I moved to a new home and the cats apparently got disoriented and ran off. In the confusion of moving in, we didn't take the time to acclimate the cats and we really wish we had. The risks for an outdoor cat are certainly greater -- you've got cars, other animals, disease risk, fleas/ticks and catnapping to worry about. However, I also know that if you want your cat to stay indoors, you have to stick with that, because once they go out, they want to keep going out, and making them stay in after that can make them a little psycho. In both cases, spay and neuter. Non-neutered males spray urine everywhere, and the females are no fun to be around when they're in heat. It's mean, too, since if you're not planning to breed them, they go through all these hormonal changes and have no idea what it's all about.

I was told that statistically it is two years on average. That's because so very many 1-2 year olds get hit by cars, carried off by predators (coyote country), dogs too can be dangerous.
Some cats do very well free-roaming, especially if not intact sexually. But it is a risk. Your heart should be in your mouth, like giving the 16 yr old the keys to the car.

Depends on where you live...my neighbor had a cat that was HUGE! Lived to 19 yrs old, I think and was fat as could be...most of my cats were indoor cats and lived somewhere between 13-18 years...

wild feral cats can differ in how lengthy they reside for. there is plenty extra elements they manage like being shot, contracting sicknesses, predators and so forth and so forth indoor cats could lead a extra blanketed existence however existence expectancy is reduce than out of doors cats typically. if you'll furnish indoor safe haven for almost all of the time then it would reside to a ripe historic age of 18-20. however in the us it's tougher as they do get shot.

It all really depends. I really wish people would not let there cats outside. That is know kind of life for them. People are not usually nice to stray cats. They are always going to be in danger for there lives. they are going to be over breeding and always looking for food. What kind of life is that. You wouldn't do it to a dog why a cat. They are suppose to be your pets. If you can't take care of it then you shouldn't have a cat.

It is a proven fact, that cats live longer, healthier lives indoors, especially with responsible owners, who have them spayed or neutered!
