Can any photographer out there tell me how to set the macro mode on a vivitar series-1 70 to 210 zoom lens?

I'm not sure specifically for that lense, but in order to use the macro mode on my lense, I first have to zoom all the way in on my lense. Then there is a mode switch on the lense that I change from normal to macro. At that point, it's just a matter of focusing.
