Um, what did the doctor say?

You could ask when if s/he should take "holidays."

I have working in the education field for 29 years and I have seen my share of children who take this medication.I think if the child is extremely hyper active to the point where they are violent to themselves or others, cusses like a sailor and is belligerent then I say yes. If the child just has a problem keeping still then I say no. I have seen children who were given their medicine before they leave home and by 11:00 o'clock in the morning you wouldn't know it. Then there are those that are given their medicine in the morning and it last most of the day. It all depends on just how hyper active the child is.

My now 9 yr old daughter was diagnosed in 2002 with adhd and obsessive compulsive disorders and she has been on adderal and two other meds before she was put on Stratera which she still takes now and has taken for about 1 1/2 years and it is so much safer and responds better also my daughter was put on clonidine for the ocd to help her sleep and keep the compulsive fits down. As long as I keep her on a strict routine and she takes her meds as indicated she is so much easier to deal with and she is more relaxed.

My doctor told me Stratera in actually an herb and is also or can also be used for depression.

My oldest son and my little brother both had ritalin and it did not work very well but also my son had some reactions later on after stopping taking the meds. I was told it causes heart problems in children that take it (when they are adults or teens) go to this site and see if it helps you with your questions.

I'm a Babysitter with experience in difficult kidsand I'm telling you Ritalin may not be that great for your kids but it help them so much to interact with their friends and family , have a better experiences in school and the parents will be so happy b/c once the kid take it it make a huge difference in everyvbody's life including the child.. I recommended just by seeing the change , happy kids and family's but I'm not a DR so Ican't say if is good or bad for the kid but what medicine is good anyway????

Ritalin depends on the child. I've seen cases where it works, and cases where it doesnt. I've also seen times where doctors have used their patients as guinea pigs and never said anything about it. I have a younger brother who was put on Ritalin at the age of 4 and his doctor did that to him, he would up the dose every time he went in to see him, and eventually upped the dose so high that he almost killed my brother. I've also had several friends whose children or siblings died, or nearly died from heart attacks, or heart failure because of this medication. If you really want my opinion, I would suggest asking the doctor to prescribe a different type of medication for your child.

It depends on the child. I've seen it do wonders for some kids and have no positive effect on others. I would only recommend trying it as a LAST resort after exhausting all other interventions.

it has side effects like any medication. but many children suffer so badly without it that the hazards of not taking it are worse than the risks of taking it.,

furthermore studies have shown that kids with ADHD who dont get their ADHD treated in some way often turn to street drugs and alcohol as adults. partly to self medicate and partly, i think to deal with the fact that they dont fit in socially.
