You know, if all you Christians had been born in India, you'd be saying how the Vedas are the gods' message to mankind and we'd all better obey it. If you were living in Saudi Arabia, you'd all be reading the Quran and insisting it is the word of Allah and we'd all better obey it. Come on, folks, the religion you believe in depends, to a great extent, on where you were born. It isn't about God speaking to you, and only you, through an extra-special book of rules--it's about humans writing stories, lessons, and laws, claiming that a god told them to write it, and then other gullible people believing them.

Because, the Bible is a book, compiled of the printing of God's Word, set down over 2000 years ago. He is still the same yesterday, today, and forever. The truth never changes, no matter what generation is reading the words.
Maybe you would feel a different way if you would hear your question this way:
Why would it even matter what God says?
Make a difference? If not, then I pray that you will come to know the Lord soon. We never know if we will live for 100 years or die in the next second. I pray you are sure you'll be in heaven.

It does not matter at all in the long run.
There is no rational person that could say if you do not read the bible you will suffer for all eternity.
For that matter there is no "one " bible ,there are many,it is just a history book, a history book full of controdictions and errors that has been changed many times over the past 300 years.
I think all you need to do in life is treat others the way you wish to be treated and thats about it.

I agree, it doesn't matter what the Bibles says to an extent.
It can help give people some morales, but it also gives people a steaming heap of bullshit, hopefully more good comes from it.
It can inspire people to do good with thier OWN morales instead of a Bible ranting 2 year old too.

It matters only in relation to what you DO with your understanding of what the Bible says to you. Many people engage in highly selective proof-texting to buttress their prejudices with "God's word." Others take a holistic view of the overarching themes of love and redemption to embrace rather than exclude large chunks of humanity. The Bible has been used for centuries to justify hate as well as to mandate love. How one interprets "what the Bible says," and for what purpose, is at the core of this question. Yes, it certainly does matter...

The question is why wouldn't you want to to know what it says. At this time in our lives, the Bible is proving that there is a God, a Son and a Holy spirit. Revelations is being fulfilled at this very moment, a prophecy written thousands of years ago..and it is happening before our very eyes. If this isn't proof that the Bible is the truth, that Jesus gave His life for everyone of us, just continue to listen to the news, see it being forfilled right before your eyes. but don't wait to long before giving some thought to what you need to do, before it's to late . God loves you..

Because it is God's word for mankind. If you had a dear Grandpa that loved you very much would you care at all if he wrote you a letter before he died? Of course! You would cherish it and read it many times. Well, this letter is from the living God, A LETTER FROM GOD! It matters because God knows what is good for us and what isn't, and he put words of comfort in the Bible for us to read to give us hope.

That has a whole lot of nothing important to say. The bible as valid or invalid as you say, has influenced billions of people and is a written account of a culture that has shaped much of our world today. Insignificant? You must be nuts!

Because the bible is "authority" and people want to follow "authority" because they believe that if they don't they will come to "negative consequences." That, and as an authority, it has ethos or credibility, so people use it to determine what truth is, so that we can use that truth to operate within the world.
Of course, that's if the bible IS an authority. If it isn't, it isn't. Alas!
