This condition is called Vitiligo, a benign (not cancerous) skin condition, also called depigmentation, or loss of pigment of the skin (melanin). The cause is unknown, it can be from: genetics, medication, nutrition, endocrine factors, from infection, and other factors. Sometimes, the areas of skin affected can become itchy. This skin is very sensitive to the sun, and burns easily, so a good sunscreen should be used during sun exposure. This skin can not tan, it will just burn. There are cosmetic products out there, to help to cover the affected areas. Some folks have large areas of their bodies affected and have tried full body repigmentation, but I don't know how successful, or expensive that may be. A dermatologist (skin doctor) should be able to tell you more specifically, what treatments are available. Good luck!

the disease you are talking about is called Vitiligo. is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin, the mucous membranes (tissues that line the inside of the mouth and nose and genital and rectal areas), and the retina (inner layer of the eyeball) are destroyed. As a result, white patches of skin appear on different parts of the body.

The cause of vitiligo is not known, but doctors and researchers have several different theories. One theory is that people develop antibodies that destroy the melanocytes in their own bodies. Another theory is that melanocytes destroy themselves. Finally, some people have reported that a single event such as sunburn or emotional distress triggered vitiligo; however, these events have not been scientifically proven to cause vitiligo.

About 1 to 2 percent of the world's population, or 40 to 50 million people, have vitiligo. In the United States, 2 to 5 million people have the disorder. Ninety-five percent of people who have vitiligo develop it before their 40th birthday. The disorder affects all races and both sexes equally.

The disease is called "vitiligo".

I'm not sure if you eventually turn pale white, since some of the pale patches can actually become pigmented again. However, I think some people with vitiligo apply makeup to even out the skin color.

Vitiligo is the disease that creates and spread spots and covers areas of white. You won't die from it but it makes your skin loose its pigmentation. I was recently diagnosed with it and its a pain because you really have to watch it all the time. You can put medications on it or have lasers done but it will be with the person forever.

Vitiligo, (or leukoderma) is a chronic skin disease that causes loss of pigment, resulting in irregular pale patches of skin. Half of vitiligo patients develop signs of the disorder before the age of 20, with patches of de-pigmented skin appearing on extremities. The patches may grow or remain constant in size. Occasional small areas may re-pigment as they are recolonized by melanocytes. The location of vitiligo affected skin changes over time, with some patches re-pigmenting and others becoming affected.

Porphyria. Here's a link to some information about it. It's extremely rare...

There are different types of this disease, and it's one particular type that causes what you describe. There are other causes of this as well. I don't think Micheal Jackson has any of these conditions, he's just a drag queen like all the others.

Started with a disease, he didn't want to be splotchy (he was always in front of a camera and was very self conscious about his appearance) so he got the rest of his skin bleached or something to match. On his autopsy report they said he had vitiligo.
