The Bible tells us that the lake of fire was originally made for the devil. It is supposed to be a never ending torment and lasts throughout eternity. I personally think (remember, this is my opinion), that when whoever goes there it is pure torment. They will still have the ability to feel the heat, thirst and whatever. It says nothing about purifying. Please don't quote this. It is only one man's (My) opinion.

The Lake of Fire in the scriptures is a symbollic of the pain that our sins will cause us, there is an LDS scripture that fits this D & C 19:16-18, "For behold, I, God have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent; But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I; Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to both body and spirit -- and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink---"

It's tormenting, not purifying...

Revelation 14:10c-11 (Cf. Revelation 20:10-15), "...He will be tortured with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the lamb. The smoke from their torture goes up forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image or for anyone who receives the mark of its name."

The lake of fire is a destroying fire, the only one that will ever be tormented is satan and that is because he already has eternal life.
AND THE LAKE OF FIRE IS NOT HELL BUT WHAT IS CALLED THE SECOND DEATH IN WHICH THOSE WHO DON'T ACCEPT GOD WILL BE BURNED TO ASHES INTO NONEXISTENCE.
Re 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Re 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Re 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED TO CHRIST. HE WAS NOT LEFT IN HELL BECAUSE HE WAS RESURRECTED AND HE DID NOT SEE CORRUPTION OR WHAT WE CALL DECAY BECAUSE HE WAS IN HELL OR (( THE GRAVE )) FOR ONLY 3 DAYS AND 3 NIGHTS.
Ac 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Ac 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his FLESH did see corruption.

purifying? where did u get that from?
its a tormenting fire...which is most likely hotter than the fire on Earth

Luke 16:23
In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
