Some of Christianity makes claim that the religion of the Jews has been done away with, the Law of Moses being nailed to the cross; a New Testament has been given us, making obsolete the Old Testament. Some Christians will not even consider anything written in the Old Testament, whether it be a point of law or not. Yet Jesus said, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets; I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill." [Matthew 5:17]

If the Old Testament was obsolete and no further use after the crucifixion, what reason did Jesus have to open the Scripture, beginning at Moses and all the prophets, to the two disciples who were on their way to Emmaus? [Luke 24:13-32] It was not the New Testament that was opened to them, but the Old, for the New Testament had not then been written. And it was after the law had been "nailed to the cross." If those two disciples had a need to understand the Old Testament, then we of today have that same need.

Many think Jesus founded a new religion, but He did not. He fulfilled the religion that was already spoken of in the Old Testament, but that was not the same religion that the Jews had at that time. The Jews' religion, at that time, was a religion of their own interpretation, just as the Christian religion of today is a religion of Christianity's own interpretation.

The law was indeed nailed to the cross because the law can save no man. In order to save yourself by adhering to the law, you must do all of the law. If you fail to do even one small part of the law, you have failed in all of it. [James 2:10] That's why the law can justify no flesh (no material mortal person) -- because no one is able to do it all.

The law testifies to all that they are not able to save themselves by their own works in doing the law. The works of his own hands can save no man. Most Christians claim they believe this to be true. They believe the Law of Moses is now obsolete, but instead of adhering to the law of liberty, they have substituted another law for the Law of Moses.

As the Jews believed they must wash their hands before meals to be saved, so the Christians today believe they must wash their bodies to be saved. As the Jews believed they must be very particular about what they fed their physical bodies, the Christians today believe they must be very particular about ingesting their dry crackers and grape juice. As the Jews observed holy days, so do the Christians, Sunday being the most observed one. Christians call one day of each week the Lord's Day -- when they should call every day of the week the Lord's Day.

The Jews' religion said, "Taste not! Touch not!" So does Christianity: "Do not drink alcohol, do not dance, do not smoke tobacco, do not associate with sinners." The Christian religion is the same as the Jewish religion with the outside configuration changed to disguise it. Today's Christians have the same god and father the Jews had, and their religion has been given to them by him. [John 8:44]

The Jews believed that a man must be circumcised in order to be one of the chosen people of God. The Christians believe the same thing about baptism. But Paul said, "Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing." [Galatians 5:2] He further said, "For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love." [Galatians 5:6]

The spiritual meaning of the commandment of circumcision meant circumcision of the mind -- of the spirit. But the Jews had interpreted that commandment after the flesh (or in a material or literal way), and adhering to their interpretation of it profited no one. The same is true of the Christian interpretation of baptism; they have interpreted it after the flesh, and it also profits no one. There is a spiritual interpretation of baptism, a baptism of water, and a baptism into the death and suffering of the Word of God. And there is also a baptism of Fire, a baptism of the Spirit.

Paul tried to point this out to the recent converts at Colossae as they were beginning to head down this same road when Paul wrote to them in an attempt to turn them back toward the right road. He reminded them, "If you have died with Christ from the elementary principles of the world, why as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as 'Do not handle, do not taste, and do not touch?' (which all refer to things destined to perish with the using) -- in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men? These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence." [Colossians 2:20-23]

If the people at Colossae had indeed replaced the ruler of this world (the elementary principles of the world) with the Rulership of Christ, there would have been no need for them to obey any commandments or laws. Their New Governor would have guided them (as they grew) into the ways that they should have gone. Paul knew, if these people continued down this road, they would soon stop growing, and would eventually lose everything that had already been given them.

The doctrines and beliefs handed down to us from our Christian fathers concerning the change made from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant has resulted in a most confused and mixed-up state of affairs for today's Christian churches.

The Old Covenant was a written law for the disobedient which needed to be studied by scholars and taught by teachers. The people under this covenant still retain the "knowledge of good and evil" which simply means that they still have "two natures" enabling them to perform both good and evil deeds. I would venture to say that even Hitler did at least one good deed in his days proving that he also had "two natures." The people who have two natures are still under the influence of the spirit of disobedience, which is also the spirit of this world. [Ephesians 2:2]

Because of the influence of this spirit, it's quite impossible for men to perform the will of God, which is to do only good without doing any evil. Even when a man is aware of this spirit's influence upon his thoughts and actions (though most aren't aware of it), he is not able to defend himself against it. The Old Covenant then gives us a written Law and also proves to us that we're not able to perform the Law or even to understand the Law.

Theologians cite 1 John 1:8 attempting to prove their assertion that no one is ever without sin, even after being "born again," yet the very next verse advises that we can be cleansed from all sins. John advises concerning the new birth that no one can truthfully say that he has never sinned, but after one is born of God, he is cleansed of sin and cannot sin. [1 John 3:9] John further tells us, "We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God (the Christ) keeps him and the evil one does not touch him." [1 John 5:18]

When one is fully-grown in the Spirit, that one can do nothing except the will of God because the Holy Spirit is then the cause of every thought and every action. Just as the spirit of disobedience once caused us to do evil, the Spirit of God causes us to do that which is good. So what we ourselves were never able to do, the Spirit of God is able to do for us.

For this reason, we can never boast of our own deeds, for the Spirit of God is the One who accomplishes the works through us. In the end, God Himself is the only One who can boast of anything. This is the Grace of God that He will do all these things for us despite the many evils we may have done in the past.

Under the Old Covenant, we were required to obey the Law of God by force of our own will power, attempting to follow a written set of laws whether recorded on stone, clay tablets, or paper.

Then came this announcement concerning a New Covenant: "Behold, days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers...But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,' declares the LORD, 'I will put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. And they shall not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them." [Jeremiah 31:31-34]

A covenant is merely a contract of agreement between two parties, the first party promising to do something for the second party as long as the second party keeps the terms of the contract. The Old Covenant stipulated that man must obey the Law of God by following a written set of rules in order to receive the promise of God, which is Life.

Under the New Covenant, neither the Law of God nor the promise of God was changed, but the only change was in the terms of the covenant. Under the terms of the New Covenant, the Law of God is put in the mind to know and to perform which is accomplished through the Christ, the Spirit of Truth and the Knowledge of God.

The Old Covenant of written precepts saying, "Do this!" or "Don't do that!" concerning every conceivable object or situation is abolished, but the Law itself was not abolished for the Law of God never changes. Rather than abolishing the Law of God, the New Covenant enables one to understand the Law and to perform it -- without ever having to look at or study a written set of laws.

Thus the precepts and statutes of the Law are abolished for those who are led by the Spirit to fulfill the Law -- for those who fulfill the Law do not need a law. The Law of the Old Covenant and the Law of the New Covenant are one and the same Law, the two covenants differing only in the agreement as to how to perform the Law.

Whenever any religious group lays down a set of laws and statutes for its members commanding, "You must not drink wine. You must not dance. Women must not wear trousers. You must not apply your teeth to the Host. You must assemble together every Sunday. You must give a tenth of your income to the church," then this group advertises to the world that they are still trying to obey a law under the terms and agreement of the Old Covenant -- even though they may believe that they are members of the New Covenant.

By issuing a set of laws to its members, a religious organization has admitted that its members do not have the Law of God within them, but still require a set of laws outside themselves. One who is still trying to obtain salvation and Life under the terms of the Old Covenant is a descendent of Ishmael, born after the flesh, born in bondage to a law [Galatians 4:22-25], and still trying to free himself from death by the works of his own hands and by the force of his own will power in obeying the law.

Men who are attempting to achieve salvation from death under the terms of the Old Covenant are treating only the symptoms of the disease by suppressing them with a set of laws, but are leaving the cause of the disease intact within them. As long as the spirit of disobedience remains in a person, symptoms of the disease will continue to appear, and is the reason one is not able to fulfill the whole Law under the Old covenant. It is the same as a doctor treating a cancer patient by giving medication to ease the pain, aspirin for his fever, and a blood tonic for general weakness -- but ignoring the cancer that is the cause of all the symptoms.

When one is under the terms of the New Covenant, the symptoms of the disease are not treated and suppressed, but the cause of the disease is removed and replaced with a new spirit. Since the disease itself has been cured, the symptoms of that disease gradually disappear resulting in no more need to treat symptoms that no longer exist. This is the same as a doctor treating a cancer patient by removing the cancerous cells (or destroying them), and then giving other treatment to cause new and healthy cells to grow in their places. With this type of successful treatment, the symptoms of the cancer will disappear.

The purpose of the Old Covenant was to teach us to recognize the symptoms. Without the Old Covenant, we would never have known that we were infected with a disease that needed to be cured. The purpose of the New Covenant is to provide us with a method of treatment that will cure the disease.

The Christian organizations in the world today are completely ignorant of these facts though I suppose theologians have used tons of paper in writing about this particular subject. The members of these organizations are told that they are "saved and born again of the Spirit." When these members question the fact that the symptoms of the disease have not disappeared, they're told by their religious leaders that they should not worry about the symptoms because all people will continue to have the symptoms even after they have been born again of the spirit.

This is the same as a doctor telling his cancer patient not to worry about his pain, his fever, and his weakness because he will continue to have these symptoms even after the cancer has been cured. If this cancer patient should believe his doctor and refuse to get a second opinion, he will spend the short time remaining to him in a deluded state of false security -- and will be in for quite a surprise when the end comes. [Matthew 7:21-23]

Yes, Jesus did in fact do away with the old laws, those under the old contract, which you are talking about. These laws where on the outside of man.

Man, then nor now, can not and will not be able to keep the old law in the flesh. Only one man was able to fulfil all the old law, his name Jesus.

When Jesus died on the cross he formed a new contract with all men, who wanted to obey him. Changing the location of the laws from outside man, to inside man namely on the tables of man's heart, thus changing man's heart from a heart of stone, too a heart of flesh.

Jesus Himself stated He did NOT come to do away with the old Law, but to fulfill it. The Old Testament laws still stand!

In order to understand the New Testament, you must first study the Old Testatment. God spoke in the Old Testament, just as he did in the New. However, in order to know what the Jewish Laws were, even Jesus had to study in the temple for many years. He had to learn about his Father's teachings, how they affected the Jews in their past, present and future, and listen to how God wanted him to restructure Grace around the law. Jesus had to grow in stature and in wisdom.

So must we.

Jesus didn't do away with them. Jesus specifically said that he did not come to overturn any laws.

I think it was Paul who took it upon himself to dismiss the OT.

You're worshipping Paul, not Jesus, when you dismiss the OT.
Read your bible.

nah, you're just another christian who finds the OT inconvenient, so you look for a way to dismiss it.

more pick & choose christianity.
