I went through this a few years ago when I got a cat and realized I was allergic. I have found that over time my allergy has almost completely gone away. But here are a few tips that I think helped: Keep your house clean - vacuum regularly. Brush the cat regularly to keep fur/dander somewhat contained to the brush. Open windows to let in fresh air. Place towels or little cat beds where you want your cat to sleep - this helps keep the allergens from getting all over your own pillows or on chairs etc. Invest in an airfilter. Also, my cat goes outside which means he does at least some of his shedding outdoors which I think helps, but I know is not an option for everyone.

I bought a bunch of products at the pet store - they have wipes and shampoos and all sorts of stuff to supposedly decrease the amount of dander but my cat was not thrilled with the idea of baths or rubdowns so I gave up that idea pretty quickly. I've heard if you bath them in plain water once a week that helps. But really, unless you start them as kittens they probably won't like it.

Do your best and load your girlfriend up on Claritin. Good luck!

Every animal is different. A person may be allergic to one pet and not even a
thousand others. Allergy levels vary by individual. Use the scientific method.
Start slow by increasing the duration and level of exposure to the pet. Some
people react only after long periods or direct contact. The allergy could be
epidermal (skin) or respiratory (air) contact.
I had a former girlfriend allergic to a particular cat not mine. These methods
showed she was not allergic at all to any of my 4 cats. Could pet them also
spend all weekend in the house with them. Proof of my theory above. TRY.

There are two options really. You can get a really good vaccum along the same lines of a Kirby that has an incredible hepa filtration system because that will pick up a lot of the pet dander that she is allergic to. Or she can go to the doctor and see about getting a prescription that is targeted to pet allergies.

everyone bar me is allergic in my family and unless its really severe your girlfriend should get used to it.never even knew my brother was allergic until he went to uni and then visited. it takes him a week or so to adapt again and then he's fine. brush your cat outside, or in the bathroom so the hairs don't get on her stuff too much and try to train kitty to stay downstairs/out of the bedroom so that there isn't anything on her pillow when she sleeps.

failing that - anything is worth the discomfort cos cats are fantastic!!

I am a cat lover. I suffer from severe allergies. My doctor has me on Zyrtec pills and Patanol eye drops for itchy eyes. Both are prescriptions that seem to work for me. She shoulp goto her doctor or an allergist and see what they suggest.

It IS possible for her to live with the cat. I have SEVERE cat allergy and love my cat so much that I take medication.

have you ever had discussions approximately babies? do you be responsive to in case you're on the comparable web site parenting clever? If no longer, then that is significant to do in the previous you're making any existence differences My first thought is supply up the girl buddy. This coming from a individual who has a buddy who's approximately to bypass in along with his female buddy and he or she is giving up her cats to bypass in with him (and that i'm no longer happy approximately it) in case you 2 are on the comparable web site on maximum of your existence possibilities, then you quite could desire to come again to a determination what's important to you. You committed to grant those cats a house and love for his or her existence. optimistically in case you sense this lady is incredibly worth it then you quite will hit upon a sturdy residing house for those cats and not unload them at a defend (which with the aid of fact you're right here asking, I doubt you're able to do) or perchance she could make concessions for the relax years your cats have left. a great variety of folk who are not "cat people" exchange into so whilst they spend time with them and understand they are no longer the stand off creatures they're stereo typed to be. yet whilst she does not exchange her strategies then perchance you are able to agree that not extra cats after those. canines and cats do get alongside, so no count if this is an argument that she feels she cant have a canines with the aid of fact you have cats, understand that could artwork too.
