MY PARENTS ARE ELDERLY AND I AM AT WITTS END AS TO WHAT TO DO. THEY KEEP THE HOUSE AT 80-82 DAY AND NIGHT. I'VE OFFERED TO PAY THE ELECTRIC BILL, BUT THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT. THEY WOUN'T PUT A SWEATER ON OR SEEM TO EVEN CARE HOW I FEEL. I CANNOT SLEEP AT NIGHT, I SWEAT AND HAVE ASTHMA. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THEY SAY I'M CRUEL AND AM UNCARING ABOUT THE ELDERLY. I CANNOT AFFORD TO GET MY OWN PLACE RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I'M TRYING TO PUT MY SON THROUGH COLLEGE. MY MOM CRIES WHEN I SAY I'M MOVING OUT BUT I JUST CANNOT LIVE HERE. I CANNOT PUT AN AIRCONDITIONER IN THE WINDOW BECAUSE THE PLACE THEY LIVE DOES NOT ALLOW WINDOW AIR CONDITIONERS. IF THEY WOULD ONLY TURN THE THERMOSTAT DOWN TO AT LEAST 78 I COULD LIVE MUCH EASIER. ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Get a fan.

Any chance that you have a bathroom off of your bedroom.

If you say yes..here is the plan...Get a portable air conditioner. The reason you need a window is to drain the humidity. Put the drain into the bathtub or sink.
Keep the bedroom door closed.

When you feel your chest tighten up.... Go in there.

I know how you feel, when my son and I come in to visit, my parents house is the same way. I too have asthma and I can't breathe when I am there. What is even worse is they expect us to sleep there when they only have 1 bed.

Sometimes you just can' t talk sense with little kids, teenagers or parents.

Good Luck.

If not try some fans.

You know what...if you get the portable AC can you just put it in the window after dark and then take it out in the morning. At least you could get some sleep that way. I know it would be a pain...but that is the best my devious mind can think of.

I see a few problems here. First, it sounds like mom and dad's place so they make the rules. Plus, they are Old and that is how old people are! Buy a large free standing fan.......cannot believe that you did not think of it! The last thing is you putting your son through college. No where in the Manual of Life does it say we owe our kids a college education!!! Sure, if you have monney to throw around then that is fine. I have three kids.....all college graduates......they paid their own way with loans, grants and scholarships. So, break the news to the kid that he will have to find alternate ways to pay for college and direct him to the college admissions office and get your own place......in the mean time, buy a fan and stop tormenting your parents!!!

Holy crap...this is NOT a one liner answer. Get a small unit or your room as well as a fan...I cannot take the heat either...and lived in Arizona. My daughter was born in August one year and unofficial temp was 122 degrees. They..your parents.....have thinner skin....oh dear me, I had to resort to what I have just said and hone it works like a charm. the unit I have was about $85.00 and it is saving my butt right now. It was just 92 at 2:00 a.m. and I was dying. It hit 108.....I may be rather shut in while it is hot, but hey, I cannot navigate the heat. Best to you hon....all my very best. Please know I am tellijng you what WILL work. You cannot shange your parents, this much I know and if I had it my way life would be a constant 65 degrees at the most.

Elderly people do get cold much easier than the younger generations due to circulatory and other issues that come with age. You really can't expect them to change the temp for your sake. I would suggest looking into an efficiency apartment. They are really small. (i.e. bed/bath one room and kitchen/living area one room) However, they are relatively inexpensive. Outside of that all you can do is strip down as much as possible, get a fan and deal with it.

i'm afraid that with the aid of fact this is his residing house, and not a separate apt., he does have the nicely suited to make up the guidelines, no count how unfair. this is in basic terms unlucky that he did no longer make this sparkling in the previous you moved in. He can inform you at any time this is nice to pass out. you're no longer risk-free with the aid of tenant's rights. if actuality be told, he can ask you to go away despite in case you do no longer ruin any rules, notwithstanding you need to have a guess in a regulation healthful. i could get the guidelines in writing. i could then shop on with the guidelines, or look someplace else for a place to stay.

you can get those portable air conditioners that doesnt require to stick the unit out the window...it stands on the floor and you have to hang the tube to face the window so the hot air can go out...it's about 500 dollars and it cools down a room pretty fast.

You should get a fan for your room, and also an air circulator. They have air ciruculators for people with asthma, and it keeps the air clean around you.
