This is an interesting question to which I can only speculate. Considering that wars kill a lot of people and people are directly responsible for pollution, you could argue that wars reduce pollution in the long run.

Wars also disrupt commerce, that is the flow of goods and services. A lot of pollution arises simply because of the transport and production of goods. This is nearly stopped during heavy fighting.

When a bomb goes off or when a building burns down, lots of stuff goes up into the air. A lot of this "stuff" is actually dust and heavy chains of carbon (black, acrid smoke is largely made up of unburnt hydrocarbons). This type of pollution is likely to join up with moisture in the air and fall out quickly.

My guess is that in the short term, wars create more pollution, but in the long term, normal day-to-day human activity creates more.
