OK, now I am in a situation where I may need to run close to 500 feet. Using signal amplifliers, would i be able to pull it off?

I hooked up one this week that was 175 feet and did not have any problems at all. The signal level was in the mid 90's and is working great. DIRECTV will tell you that you will need an inline amp for runs over 100 ft but it's really not needed. Just make sure you use a good 75 ohm RG6 wire.

100 - 200 feet is really not that much for a satellite installation. Get the best quality RG-6 coax you can find.

No problem. Just use a QUAD shield RG6 coax. We do installations over 100 feet all the time.
