I have an Olympus digital camera somewhat older. Can I use another software such as Goggle Picassa...or any other.. (other than the supplied CD) to download the pictures from camera to the computer?? Is there any other freeware software capable of doing this??
The supplied CD always has issues with Windows XP Pro and I'm really annoyed by them?

Yes, you should be able to use Picasa, providing when plugged in to the computer your camera shows up in "my computer".

Launch Picasa, go to File, then open, and find the camera, then click on it, and go from there.

Good Luck!!

You will be avble to use Picasa. When you go to Open File in Picasa and look in "My Computer" you may not see your camera listed. Instead it would probably show up as a removable drive. You will then have to drill down a few folders to find your pics.
