Assuming God exists, would a believer in God taking His name in vain be worse than an Atheist taking God's name in vain? The believer thinks/knows not to do this, but the Atheist comes from a different frame of reference and doesn't know or even think about this. What do you think? Ignorance doesn't excuse transgression?

The question is logical....people who are Atheist still take God's name in vain....it's become common in the cursing vernacular, regardless of spiritual/religious beliefs.

Good question. I'd say no.
Jesus told the parable of the two sons. One told his father he would work in the fields, and did not. The other told his father he would not work in the fields, but did. Jesus said that the crowd of believers were like the first son...they SAY they'll follow God's word and yet do not. Yet those who say no to God often do what's right of their own choice.

You are sinning by denying GOD exists AND for using His name in vain. The difference is that Christians know to ask for forgiveness. The atheist won't. Remember, even the devil believes in GOD.

If an Atheist takes G-d's name in vain it is as wrong for him as anyone. Sin is sin regardless of who you are or what you know. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Do you think an atheist would know God's Name? Can you explain how if they do not believe in him, they would give him a name to take in vain? Your question is illogical.

A sin is sin no matter who commits it. One of the ten commandments is not to take the name of the Lord in vain. I agree tho, it would seem worse hearing it from a Christian.

No. To take the Lord's name in vain is when it's used to deceive someone.
Hey I don't like hearing it and try to refrain from doing it but just to say "Oh my God", is not what is meant.
Exo 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
VAIN H7723 ש×× ×©×××o shaÌv' shav shawv, shav
From the same as H7722 in the sense of desolating; evil (as destructive), literally (ruin) or morally (especially guile); figuratively idolatry (as false, subjectively), uselessness (as deceptive, objectively; also adverbially in vain): - false (-ly), lie, lying, vain, vanity.

The 10 commandments are available for us to read and obey. The rules don't change because someone doesn't believe in God.

Yes; just because one doesn't believe in God, doesn't make one immune from sin. The very fact that one doesn't believe in God makes one displeasing in God's eyes. God's commandments apply to everyone, whether or not they believe in God.
