There is a lot of posturing when it comes to the first question. Many answers in the affirmative are dispensed to demonstrate that the person who answers it is intrepid and has that machismo that is so essential to every patriot. Truth be told, half the flag wavers who speak of taking up arms and dying for this nation, when really confronted with an enemy or with the mandate to kill another human being, would be less than willing to do it. It is one thing to flex ones muscles with strong language, however when it comes time to act on these words they soon realize that killing a man for an ideology is not easy, not to mention that the fear of ones own demise can be an amazing deterrent even to those who profess patriotism the most.
I think a more realistic answer is that if there was a real threat to my country, and I still believed that my country really stood for what is true and virtuous, then I would like to think that I could muster up the courage to say that I would fight against any enemy. Of course until I am in that situation, God only knows how I would react. Would trepidation get the best of me? I don’t know. I think that is the most candid answer that one could give. Most of sit cloistered in the confines of our comfortable middle class suburban lives, completely sheltered from the horrors of war. How can anyone in that situation be so sure how he or she would react if war were to come to our shores. We can only say how we would LIKE to behave not how we WOULD behave.
With regards to your second question concerning does it matter who our enemy is, I think that answer is yes. We have to decipher whether what we are told is our enemy is truly our enemy or is it merely government manipulation making a scapegoat out of people who don’t deserve our aggression. I think that is especially relevant given our misguided war on terror, where we attack a nation like Iraq that wasn’t really any threat to us.
Quite frankly there hasn’t been a true threat to our sovereignty since WWII. Ever since WWII people have always brought up taking up arms to defend our country as a litmus test of a person’s loyalty, without regards to whether the current global predicament – whether it be the Korean War, Vietnam War, the Balkan conflict, or the Iraq war – is truly a threat to our democracy and worth the sacrifice of our boys. In all the armed conflicts that I mentioned above, with the exception of World War II, the answer is a resounding and sad no. The Korean War and the Vietnam War had nothing to do without the preservation of our democracy. How can I say that so emphatically? We did not resolve either conflict and do we feel any less free now because we failed? No. Hence the wars were inconsequential to our democracy or our freedom. It was fought to feed the corporate/military machine for profit and it was based on a paranoid notion of Communist manifest destiny. Needless loss of life occurred due to trigger happy policies
I think it best that we stop asking people how willing they are to kill others for the preservation of their freedom, and instead ask what are we doing to ensure that we behave morally in the world, thereby mitigating the need for armed conflict. Isn’t that a more moral question? Shouldn’t patriotism be more about doing the most moral thing, as opposed to doing the most brutal thing?

May be an additional relative reply is honestly developing a frame, that might be a watchdog. All international locations that experience those guns factories might be concerned and take facet. This might maybe be a well inspiration as to begin with this could make it problematic and stifle any corruption. Secondly this could be away of making sure that no person nation is a dominant superpower if the international locations are all looking every different. In the period in-between I could advocate that maybe away ahead if the international locations made a collaborative attempt say just like the U.N. or could also be a few type of conference say just like the Geneva Convention however without doubt for the tracking and manage of guns. The tracking facet of matters might be a brief tern answer. The long run target maybe of this anti-guns buying and selling frame is to I believe near down and quit the manufacture of guns altogether. How utopian of me eh?! Jay Kay, I'm now not definite the right way to reply this as there's no sensible answer as each reply can also be criticised in that even supposing a frame used to be setup, there could be the involvement of paperwork, additionally the fiscal facet of matters and additionally who and the way could those international locations that do not co-function and holiday the foundations be punished? Countries that use guns towards there possess humans almost always function this fashion as there's maybe little democracy and plenty of corruption. The query maybe one must have requested is how those humans, those mafia form governments exist and get into vigor within the first situation?

Actually mostly only fascist are true patriots. In reality; why does it matter where you were born if you can still go to any country and live a better life there? I agree that you can defend the country you live in when there is an imminent threat such someone with an armed force capability such as the one we have. Any other is just a political excuse to gain or intimidate someone else.

it really doesn't matter unless religious ideals get in the way. Islamic idealists don't have to fight in a war against Islamic countries and so on.
I would support our country against anyone but Israel (the bible has something to say about countries that wage war against the promised land)

1. It depends on who i was fighting ex. nazi germany-yes, vietnam-no
2. It absolutely matters, by that logic we should shoot all so-called illegal immigrants who just want to make a better life for themselves.
