My parents make a lot of money, over 100k/year.

They go on trips to Hawaii every year along with my two little brothers, buy cars with cash, have a boat, and spoil my little brothers.

My brother, who is 12, had to go to the orthodontist. He was told he had a horrible overbite among other things and he is chipping his teeth really bad. He was told that he needed braces.

He went to 3 orthodontists and they said the same thing. They all quoted my parents about $6,000 for the treatment.

My parents said it was too much and are not getting him braces.

I think they need to get their priorities straight. I mean buying my brother a billion video games and not investing in his teeth? What's next, not paying for cavaties to be filled? They are not poor people!

What do you think about this?

They need to talk to the orthodontist about a payment plan and get their son braces. One could make a strong case for child neglect here. . .as orthodontic problems could affect your brothers health and well-being for the rest of his life, not to mention his facial appearance and consequently his earning potential. These people sound like they really need to reconsider their priorities.

well it sounds like a very sad situation to me. You know it is such a shame that your parents are being very selfish. You are 100% correct that your parents should invest in your lil brothers teeth.

I hope it works out I really do.
Your parents are very selfish people it seems.

Oh and not that this is a consolation but you do know you can get braces even when you are an adult. Ofcourse most adults don't like walking around with braces on but they can still get them if they aren't happy with their teeth. And maybe when your brother is an adult he could pay for them himself. Yeah I know that isn't the way its suppose to be but in this case it doesn't look like you can do anything about it.

the only thing I can think of is if you get an allowance or something like that you can tell your parents you don't want the money and tell them to put it towards your lil brothers braces that they wont get. Tell your brother to sell some video games to pay for the braces. This should make your [parents open their eyes. I know this isn't ideal but something has to be done...Sorry Again and Good Luck'

Talk to a counselor at school or go to child social services and tell them that. They might force your parents to do something about it.

You might try to talk to them yourself too, or a trusted relative, like grandparents or uncles. That might help.

They don't need to pay the entire amount all at once, they could break it down into payments. The family would have to set aside an amount for that purpose, and limit some things to a certain extent, but if they earn well it is rather strange that they would choose not to treat your brother if he needs it.

If worse comes to worse, there are excellent orthodontists in Mexico, depending on where you live, if that is close to the border, you can cross over for his treatment. I know people in San Antonio who do that, and it's cheaper.

Luck

Your parents are being selfish, completely selfish and there is no excuse for it. We live in a world where appearance is extremely important. Whether we like it or not, people who look professional and look as if they have taken care of themselves are the ones who tend to have more success in their careers as well as personal lives. If you parents don't want to give him braces they better be prepared to help support him when he becomes an adult. I bet they would think $6000 would not be a big deal in comparison to supporting their child for the rest of their life.

carry telling your mothers and fathers the type you experience and how embarrassed you would be able to correctly be. maximum dentists have fee plans the region your mothers and fathers ought to pay it month-to-month like a financial employer card invoice till this is paid off. look at fee plans and doubtless you ought to artwork to help pay for it. As they say, the place there may well be a will, there's a manner. look on the region you would be able to circulate to get braces (they are going to have an internet site) and locate out how lots it ought to fee and in the event that they have fee plans. examine added.

They're cruel and they will ruin his self-confidence, I know how hard it is for a kid with bad teeth and I am so grateful that my mother paid to get me braces. The child needs help, you need to lobby for him. Seriously, don't let them get away with it. I'm sure they can even pay in installments. A lot of a child's development depends on their self-image and if he sees Quasimodo staring back at him in the mirror then there will be huge reprecussions.

I'm not going to judge your parents because I'm not in their shoes.

My teeth are crooked, and have been since I was a child. I asked my dentist to refer me to an orthodontist for braces. My dentist told me that I have beautiful teeth and that I don't need braces because I don't have any deformities which cause me pain of difficulties. I'm glad my parents didn't get me braces. My dentist was right; These are my teeth and they give me character.

Unless your brother's teeth are causing him pain, or difficulty eating, or speaking, he doesn't need them!

Good luck!

I think it's sad. Why not do some investigating and find out the long term effects of the overbite and chipping teeth. Possibly you could find some articles online about it and present it to them and explain how long term they are harming him.

they don't have to pay it all at once and they should feel lucky that they don't have to pay for them for both children. don't hassle them. they should, but some cannot afford it. sometimes braces are just for cosmetic reasons. it cost my brother about 5300 and my parents were at first relectant, especailly since at 18 and my parents think his teeth are straight. but went through with it anyway.

Your parents, and mine, need to have their heads examined. My parents didn't make as much as yours, but my dad made 60K and my mom stayed at home. They told me they couldn't afford braces and now I get headaches.

Do you have any aunts, uncles, or grandparents you can talk to? Try them or maybe a teacher at school. They might be able to explain to your parents why it is important to get him braces.
