Without ever reading any of the other answers I can say with no doubt in my mind that I have the answer......
OK, When you were children growing up you had a unblemished image of her. The fact that you carry that with you and it still is untouched you feel the same. You long for that time with her, keep it that way..... its OK that every now and then thoughts of her come to you and you smile. Maybe someday the chance to be in her life will come again.

Probably because you never had "closure" with her. You've had these feelings since childhood, but never told her. It's a part of your life that never really began or ended. And be it consciously, or sub-consciously, there are probably alot of unanswered questions for you. The "what if" factor. That would drive anyone "mad".
I used to be in the same boat as you. Not exactly childhood, but since highschool (many, many years ago). I finally told her, without any expectations, except for the fact that I just wanted it off my chest. And it worked, I don't dwell on her anymore. Nothing ever became of it (she was already with someone). But I got closure. What sucks the most was, she said that she felt the same way, but never did anything about it too.
Good luck.

you have created a fantasy in your head. Fantasy is great as it does not talk back. You have created the best woman and best relationship in the Universe. So why would any man want to stop thinking about such a fantasy. Sorry mate, its not true love, or fate, its just plain fantasy. Accept it for what it is and go and find a real relationship before its too late as they are hard things to master. Good luck

It seems that you two really had a special bond and that could be why you haven't been able to forget her. Perhaps, you should try to contact her just to see what she's been doing for the past 4 years since you last spoke and see what happens from there.

You never said if she was married....if you were married. If you are both single then write her a letter but don't get heavy! If either or both of you are married......get over it and move on. Love as a child is quite different than that of adult. You need to grow up and stop acting like a child!

You probably want to ask her out, right? Your feeling bad and semi guilty that you didn't? Well you can go to a counciler to make you forget her or you can call her up out of the blue and talk. Visit her if you get the money, but ask first. Tell her how you feel, she'll be touched. But don't tell her unless she is single, otherwise she'll think of you as creepy.

I think you just may feel childhood feelings for her. She makes you feel like you are back in the day and maybe you enjoyed those days. I think you should keep her as a friend for now and if something were to develop them only time can tell.

Probably cos in all that time you didnt say how you felt.
Time to either get over it or do something about it in an adult way that wont mess up her life

I think there is always that someone you will never forget about from childhood. I dont think theres much you can do about besides find someone elce to take your mind off things. Or higher someone to find her.
