If so, what were the results and what should I know going into this surgery? My Chessie is 3 yrs old and in very good health other than her knees. Any insight you can give will be appreciated. Thank you

Also, if you had pet insurance at the time I would be very interested to know how much of the pocedure it covered.

I have spoken with a vet who I feel very comfortable with. He made me feel pretty good about the procedure but I was hoping to hear from anyone who has been through this with their pet. I am most concerned with success rate and recovery issues. thanks again

Your vet should have all of those answers.

As one of the answers stated you should go over your questions with your veterinarian prior to scheduling the surgery. In general, the surgery will help stabilize an unstable joint. The degree of success will be different in every animal. Regardless if you chose surgery or not your pet will have arthritis in the stifle earlier than another normal pet.

If you don't feel comfortable with the information you are getting from your vet, you either need to ask more questions or you need to seek a vet you can feel comfortable with, especially when considering a major surgery for Chessie.
