At very earliest 6 weeks but they must be able to eat and drink on their own (consistently)...note that smaller breeds can develop many problems if they do not eat consistently as puppies. When their blood sugar drops it can make them go into a coma and can be fatal. I would not take pups away from their mother until 8 - 9 weeks when they are FULLY weaned and eating and drinking consistently on their own. As people have already posted, this has to do with socialization and learning their manners as well. It's best. You can contact a local veterinarian for more specifics.

Dogs usually wean off their mother's milk at around 6 weeks of age. This does not mean that they should be separated from the litter. Each litter and different breeds have slower and faster developement times. Puppies should not be separated until they are showing the confidence and individuality that will enable them to adjust to new surroundings and a different social structure. Some are ready at 8-10 weeks, and others may take up to 6 or more months. Each dog is different.

it is usually best after 8 weeks of age. the puppy is still learning from the mother dog, about biting growling and so on. Most people go ahead at 6 weeks. if you happen to get one less than 6 weeks you need to take over what the puppy is learning, it will help you train her. when the puppy starts to bite then you can growl and she will think it is the mamma dog.

I got my dog at 5 1/2 weeks of age. she did o.k.. I don't recomend that though.

If seperation is very early, be prepared to have an infant on your hands. Early seperation can cause anxiety, which can be alleviated by the new owner treating the puppy as you would an infant. Holding it close and letting it share the bed with you. You are in for a lot of sleepless nights this way.

8 weeks old it the perfect age. Any younger and they don't have the social skills they need. They will have more separation anxiety.
