The person drawing the blood at either place had different levels of experience is all. I've had blood taken and didn't feel a thing and hardly had a bruise the next day. Other times it felt like they were using a pitchfork to draw blood and my arm would be bruised considerably.
Maybe she got the new guy the first time she went and they hadn't prefected their technique yet.
As far as the clinic infecting her with something, I seriously doubt it.

*edit We are talking a STD test right? I didn't know that they did pap smears for that. I had one done and it was done by blood sample. I guess different places do things differently...

I highly doubt that is the case. It was probably all in her mind. Or maybe, they did something differently. There are so many possible things that could have went wrong, but things like this happen very rarely. She was probably just nervous about how the test would feel the first time, the second, she knew what was going to happen, but it was lost in her mind some where. But to be safe, I guess you should always go for a third test with a completely different doctor than the first two, as I'm assuming it was two different doctors.

It is anxiety because they use swabs which can feel sharp there is no actual needle used in the pap smear just q-tips which scrap off some cells from inside the uterus which are then transferred to slides no clinic would purposely try to infect anyone with something.

Doctors usually perform a pelvic exam and obtain specimens using multiple swabs - like very large Q-Tips. Some doctors or health care practitioners are more gentle than others - so sometimes you feel it and sometimes you don't. The swabs are to detect Chlamydia, GC, Trichomonas, yeast to name a few. They always use sterile equipment so you will not "catch" an STD from the doctor's office. In addition to swabs, they may obtain a blood sample to test for Syphilis and Aids.
My old obgyn always hurt - i think he was half blind and a clumsy old coot.

Oh, I'm sure she was just nervous. Medical professionals do not go around innoculating the public with harmful, dangerous, and contagious diseases.
