Okay, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You can have a roomy one that can go mudding and tow a boat, but it'll never get good gas mileage. Four wheel drive eats gas, even when you don't use the 4x4 part. But a median choice would be a Dodge Dakota 4x4, with a small V-8 for towing. You could get a crew cab for extra room. They get a lot better mileage than the Ram trucks, or most any other truck, for the price. Good luck.

Power costs, brother. If you get a truck with a smaller engine for better gas mileage, you'll be craving more power.

Maybe the best compromise would be a Toyota Tacoma double cab. It has a 6500 lb towing capacity and still gets up to 20 mpg. Still, it may not be "big enough" for you. Most of my buddies are driving around Ford F-250 with Power Stroke diesel engines. Expect around 15 mpg on those, at best.

It's like the old story. You can have something done fast, you can have something done good and you can have something done cheap. Pick two, because you can't get all three. What you want its going to be guzzling gas or diesel. Or you will have something too small and weak to satisfy you.

I love my 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. It is a 2 wheel drive with the 3.42:1 rear end gear and I get 21 MPG on the highway running 75. I have pulled (not advised by GM) a 32 foot gooseneck trailer weighing in total 16,000lbs with it over 60,000 miles and have no issues.

This truck is the roomiest in its class and I have had no issues with it. I change the oil & do all the recommended maintenance and all I have had to replace in 112,000 miles is a set of tires. The brakes are still original (although getting close to replacement time) and I am absolutly thrilled to death with my truck.

This is my opinion on the best truck built. Have fun on your truck hunt.

a chevy silverado or scotsdale, they are pretty dependable truck, if you are going to tow a boat ect you would need atleast a 3/4 ton is better to pull a boat because of the gears, a 1/2 is better for off road beause its lighter body. hope this helps

Go domestic, used: Dodge, Ford, Chevy.

God smaller than you think. Check the GVW and Tow capacity of each truck you look at. Think small. You save gas and $$$. Most people buying trucks want big and bad.

The Ford F-150 is the biggest seller, but I like the Dodge Dakota. It's size in-between the full size and compact pick ups seems just right. I bought mine new in 2001. It is the S/T 4X4 with the small V-8 engine. I have never had a problem with it and it still runs just like new. One thing though ... it goes through gas like sh.it through a goose.

That's easy, Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins Turbo Diesel. This uses diesel fuel, and is Biodiesel compatable. I get about 20 MPG city and highway combined. There is no job to big, or small for that truck.

Silveraldo has the most usable rear seat. Rams looks hot, Fords break down and are cheaply made. It's up to you man.
