check her temperature, it should be higher than normal if she is about to give birth. Based on the information you put here, I wouldn't be suprise if she is about to. She is going to give birth by herself. just keep and eye on her(don't stare). call vet hospital emergency room if the she shows sign of difficulties. If one baby stay inside her for more than 2 hours, call vet hospital. I don't know how big is your chihuahua, but if she is small(with small bones), be extra careful.

Your dog is giving birth in the middle of the night. Regardless of whether it was a planned pregnancy or the result of a neighborhood traveling salesman, the mother and puppies deserve the best care possible.

To start off, make sure the mother is in a dry, clean environment. If possible, move the mother inside to a quiet spot and build her nest or whelping box. A child’s wading pool makes a wonderful whelping box. It can be lined with papers, old sheets or towels and cleaned as needed by simply taking it out and spraying with water.

There are many signs a dog is about to start her labor. She will become restless, start panting and needing to urinate more often. Her temperature will usually drop below 100F. There will be a discharge from her vagina.

When the labor has actually commenced, the discharge will turn a deep, greenish black color. This means there has been placental detachment and the puppies are on their way.

The mother will stop what she is doing at times and you can actually see her abdomen swell and as well as her efforts at pushing. This pushing can go on for several minutes or even hours.

When a puppy has entered the birth canal and is about to be born, the mother will usually start licking her vulva. It will swell open as the puppy reaches it. Puppies can come head or tail first. It often makes no difference in the delivery time.

As the puppy slides out, let the mother lick and tear the amniotic sack off. Unlike humans, puppies usually are born still inside this sack. If the mother seems confused as to what to do, gently tear the membrane itself and allow the fluid to be released. Give the mother time to take over but if she doesn’t, you will have to tie the cord and get the puppy breathing.

I had a youngster a month in the past. I additionally had a midwife. I obtained caught at 5cm with contractions a million after the opposite and I could not take it anymore. I desired an epidural, which intended that I used to be a switch of care. My midwives stayed with me the complete time even though, and feature performed the publish-delivery visits as good. I had two epidurals, neither of which labored (and the general practitioner had no thought why), so I had a spinal block, or some thing it's that they provide you if you have a c-segment, however no longer as powerful. It used to be meant to final four hours, however simplest lasted one. I then needed to beg them to provide me a few morphine (which failed to do a lot). So almost what I'm pronouncing, is discover out in case your midwife has medical institution privileges. I had my daughter 12:19am Sunday morning and obtained out Monday afternoon, however I might have left prior, or stayed longer.

Hi,

If you're sure your dog is only 53 days you've got another 10 - 12 days before she's ready to go. A dog is prenant for 63-65 days before she is ready to deliver. You should be able to express milk from her a few days before she is ready. Keep her quiet and keep an eye on her.

Good luck

the dog will act like she is nesting. grabbing all kinds of things scratching at the blanket. it will kind of look like she is making the blanket more comfortable. when she is about to start giving birth it will look like she is going to poo. if on vet said she is 53 days preg. you should start taking her temp everyday. about 24-48 hrs before she is to go into labor her temp will drop about 1-3 degrees.
it does sound like she is starting. my friends dog started doing this about 3 days before she had the puppies
most vets in an emergency situation have a telephone answering service and will come int. that's what they do in my town

it looks like it. She will noramlly lay down in the wepling box and start pushing. Be around with blankets if the doesn't start stimulating and licking the babies so that they will breath. If she doesn't clean them up, just rub them with the blanket.

Good luck with the babies!
