This is actually a hypothetical question not meant for me, but for my drummer's wife. Our band is doing well, and could play as much as we would want to, but the drummer's wife is allergic to cigarette smoke, can't come out to the shows, and complains to him about the time he spends without her. All the other wives come to the shows, enjoy the hell out of it, except the drummer's wife. We would all be so much happier if she could come out and be comfortable with the rest of us, so I'm looking for suggestions.

If she is truly allergic to cig smoke, they only thing she can do is stay away. I know that doesn't help your situation, there is no other way to get around it.

This isn't an instant solution, but you could do what New York State did. Enough people wrote and called our representatives to present a no-smoking law that it actually went through! I used to have the same problem as your drummer's wife--I couldn't even go out to eat in restaurants that had smoking sections, and I'm a singer. (Yeah, it's kind of hard to sing when you can't breathe!) Now it is illegal to smoke in any public establishment in New York State.
I realize that my above answer doesn't help you much, so here's a more immediate option: Try to book some gigs at places that offer an outside area for your band to play. A lot of places in our area have porches, and most are willing to let our band set up out there if we ask, and if we provide our own extension cords. This won't be an option at every place you play, but at last your drummer's wife will be able to join you sometimes. :)

Smoke is actually not an allergen, it's an irritant. But there are allergy medications, such as zyrtec (I take it), and many nasal sprays that can help her out. If her reaction is asthma than singulair (which I also take) is a good option along with a few other things. If it's her eyes there are TONS of different eye drops out there and she can find her match by trial and error.
Hope I helped!

Play somewhere else. If you can't, why don't you just film the show and let her watch it at home later, or get a web cam and she could watch it live on the computer. She doesn't have to go to the club to enjoy the show.

Tell her to be patient - soon all public places will be smoke free.
And not soon enough if you ask me. Second hand smoke is very dangerous and why should we all be subjected to it! In the mean time, why don't you look for gigs in smoke free places occasionally?????

IMO she shouldn't be risking her health going to these clubs. Secondhand smoke is still just that. Nothing besides completely avoiding it is going to be safe for her; or for you guys either.

my sister is alergic to smoke. she has asthma. she can hang out with people that smoke, but she keeps her inhaler with her at all times. if she has an inhaler she could use that. if she doesn't ask her dr what he thinks about it.
